can give you my $0.02's worth.
It's not like this is a secret but good lawd we don't have a punter. I hope this doesn't cost us games but the situation is BAD--like ugly bad. No idea how we got to this point. Maybe we need to recruit one of futbol team's goalies??
We have our 1st scrimmage on Saturday, can't wait to read about who shows up/shows out.
And PRAY for no injuries!!

My roommate tried to walk-on as punter...

Back in the 80's, my 5' 1" roommate tried to walk on as a punter for Coach Ford's team - said they just ran him up against the big boys for tackling practice until he got the idea. Maybe Dabo needs to have an all-call to the student body again.

this was my first thought. Have open treeouts for punter. I’m sure there’s someone out there who could boom it and would love to be a part of the team.

listed by position who might be able to provide help.
We could call it a “transfer portal,” and players searching for a new home could be found by coaches who have a position of need.
That would be pretty cool, wouldn’t it?

in Dabo’s direction, but put at least a little effort into it. Stop acting like multiple can’t-miss kids are in the portal begging to come to Clemson. If you think that’s the solution, give us a name, so that we can judge the validity of your complaint.

Okay, here’s one: Daniel Swarley.
Aug 9, 2022, 9:39 PM
|
|
As a freshman at Louisiana-Monroe, he started every game and averaged over 44 yards per punt. He was at Minnesota last year, but did not start so he entered the portal. He is now at Virginia, having transferred there earlier this summer.
https://www.si.com/college/virginia/football/uva-football-adds-minnesota-punter-daniel-sparks-from-transfer-portal Minnesota punter Daniel Sparks is transferring to the Virginia football program.
Now, hopefully you will put a little effort into this by not simply saying “Dabo knows what he’s doing.” Instead, try to be objective and ask yourself if we truly have the best punter available on our roster right now. In other words, are our punters better than anyone who was in the portal this year?
We don’t pay Dabo over $8 million a year not to have a freaking punter.

Vs the two punters we have on the roster to see if bringing on Minnesota’s second stringer would have made a significant-enough impact on our program to warrant the inclusion of a transfer over those who chose Clemson from the get-go.
That’s assuming he would have had interest in Clemson.

What we do know is that UVA’s coaches recognized a potential issue at punter and went out and got one.
In other words, at least they are trying.
If this punter the ‘Hoos got from the portal doesn’t workout, have they really lost much? I don’t think so.

I suspect that he studied Dabo very carefully all those years, knowing that Dabo had a lot to teach him. Like any good young coach, Tony took the good so that he could replicate it, and also discarded the bad so that he could try to do those things better.
Perhaps Tony felt that Dabo wasn’t open enough to the transfer portal, and knew that he should view it in a more positive light as he started to build his team at UVA.

2021: Tony Elliott is not a very good coach because he has top 5 talent, but his offense is ranked outside of the top 100.
2022: Tony Elliott is a good coach because he got Minnesota's backup punter from the transfer portal.
For reference:
Career at Clemson- Elliott made his return to the Clemson Tigers in early 2011 to fill the running back coach position. In December 2014, he was named co-offensive coordinator to replace outgoing offensive coordinator Chad Morris, who left to take over as head coach of the SMU football program. He shared coordinator duties with Clemson's wide receivers coach, Jeff Scott. Swinney announced that Elliott would be the play-caller for the Russell Athletics Bowl versus the Oklahoma Sooners,[8] in which the Tigers defeated the Sooners by a score of 37–17.
Clemson's football team won the national championship in January 2017, beating Alabama, with Scott calling the offensive plays and serving as co-offensive coordinator for the game. In December 2017, Elliott was the recipient of the Broyles Award, presented to the top assistant coach in college football. In 2019, Elliott again called plays as co-offensive coordinator for Clemson's 44–16 win, again over Nick Saban's Alabama, to secure a second national championship.[9]
Elliott was Clemson's primary offensive playcaller for seven seasons (2015–2021), including through both of Clemson's NCAA Championships and successful runs through the College Football Playoff. Elliott also coached the running backs and tight ends at Clemson.[10] Elliott was the primary Clemson recruiter for these positions, including a "diamond in the rough" in four-star Travis Etienne, who under Elliott's position coaching and offensive playcalling became the ACC's all-time leader in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns, total points scored, and total yards gained.[11] Under Elliott, Etienne scored at least one touchdown in 46 of his 55 career games, setting the NCAA and FBS records. As a coordinator, Elliott was also the primary playcaller for Trevor Lawrence.[10]
Elliott gained the additional title of associate head coach for Clemson in 2021. During his seven years as sole or co-offensive coordinator for Clemson, the Tigers had a record of 88–10. -Wiki
Career at UVA- Picked up Minnesota's back up punter from the portal.

"2021: Tony Elliott is not a very good coach because he has top 5 talent, but his offense is ranked outside of the top 100."
I thought we had MAJOR question marks(entering 2022) at all of our offensive positions according to JK? I mean from last year to this year our only big losses were Justyn Ross and Bockhorst...so if we had top 5 talent last year, how can JK think we have so many questions this year?

I'm not a subscriber (I don't subscribe to anything on the net) but I'm pretty sure the new website on3 (it's in open competition with Rivals) has an exhaustive database on the transfer portal and NIL as well as HS recruiting.
Someone on here might know far better than I.

It makes you wonder what is going on with Swanson. He spent his last 2 HS years at IMG where he averaged 46 yds/punt as a Junior and 42 yds/punt as a senior and ranked in the Top 5 in the country.
When it comes to punting, you wouldn't think the leap from HS to College would be THAT different compared to other positions.
Hopefully, he figures it out over the next few weeks.

I read this a few days ago. Considering it's August, there is nothing that can be done about it.
It's really hard to ride on the back of a great defense to a championship when punting is weak.
Defense and special teams could possibly get us to the CFP. But special teams gotta step up.
