ALL employment contracts going forward should include the following query: “Did you incur any student debt while attending college? If so, did you pay off, or are you currently paying off, that indebtedness? Did you accept the government’s $10,000 debt “forgiveness” or did you reject their kind offer (BRIBE) and fulfilled your obligations?

Sure, and every business that received a PPP loan and didn't pay it back should be required to advertise that fact.

We did not accept PPP loans while many in our industry who we compete directly with for jobs did. The PPP request form requires you to state you need this money to operate and stay in business (paraphrasing). We've made the argument in municipal and government pre-bids which require financial data that the acceptance of a PPP loans should be a disqualifying, or at least a negative factor. No surprise that this has fallen on deaf ears.

Part of the problem with the PPP loans..

is that the federal government was so he!!-bent and determined to get the money in the hands of businesses, there was no real loan qualification process. The Fed was effectively just writing checks and, as a result, fraud was rampant. Now that the money has all been spent, the Fed now wants to go back and conduct those audits to confirm that the money was, in fact, spent as intended (to continue operating and to stay in business). Good luck with that !!!!

There should also be a cap on how much you can borrow compared to the expected annual income earned with your major. In other words a bachelors degree in Sociology should cap out at $20k, whereas Chemical Engineering should cap out at about $90k. Also, loan shark type interest rates should be prohibited.

We put our son and daughter both through college (one at Clemson and one at Penn St) with no debt and I didn’t make close to $200k. We didn’t take expensive vacations or buy new cars every couple of years. Both of them have civil engineering degrees and will do more to build this country back better than any of the clowns in Washington. My daughter’s husband had some debt (also for an engineering degree) and they made it a priority to pay this off in the first 3 years after graduation. If they had paid on the normal schedule they would be eligible for this money. Typical of our government to punish people who work the hardest and reward those who don’t.

My daughter graduated from Clemson, and found a job immediately after graduation. Big Thanks to the Intern Program.
I paid for her education, without loans, and now feel the pinch on my retirement. I wouldn't trade the lack of an extra trip, or home renovation, for her to not have that degree.

Totally agree. My daughter had 2 summer internships and was offered jobs by both companies upon graduation. I am a 1984 grad and had an internship that also helped me land a job. Clemson does an exceptional job on internships and job placement and has going at least back to the 80s. My son went to Penn St and they did not really do anything to help with internships or job placement after graduation. I know a few NC St grads who say they don’t do nearly as much in this area as Clemson either. And I agree, watching them succeed in life is much more enjoyable than any vacation we gave up could have been.

My wife and I sent 3 kids to college, then one to grad school and one to medical school. We and scholarships paid for their educations in full. That said, I feel good about what we did since both my wife and I went to school the same way.
I agree with those who question the basic intelligence of government loans to people majoring historically low paying job. I also question the intelligence of people who go to school all the while accumulating debts they must know will be hard to repay with the degree they are earning.
If you voted for a congressional representative or senator or president who buys votes regularly by giving your money away, then the government we have is the one you deserve. The last time the country lived under a balanced budget was the Clinton administration when we had a republican controlled legislature. So we have all been voting for people who buy our votes with borrowed money. We should stop supporting EVERYONE now in Congress and EVERYONE running for President who does produce and live by a balanced budget.

If you took their collective brain power, you would not be able to generate enough energy to light a firefly's a$$.
How do you justify forcing taxpayers who did incur the debt or benefit from some degree whatsoever, to foot the bill for a bunch of students who made poor financial decisions. Frankly, this decision should have been made at the legislative level rather than through the President.
For the past 29 months, no borrower of federal student loans has been required to make a single payment on those loans, costing the American taxpayer $4.5 billion a month. That has added a total of $103.5 billion to the national debt, and it's only going to increase, all so people with college educations don’t have to bear the responsibility of paying back loans they previously committed to paying back.
Spending $4.5 billion per month on people who have the ability and the responsibility to pay back their student loans only further stokes inflation, making the cost of groceries, gas, clothing, and everything else we buy more expensive. We are, after all, still in the midst of an economic emergency in this country. Piling up more debt on the shoulders of the taxpayers will only increase inflationary pressure on the economy.

Waa waa thumbs down. Rabble and go to another board and whatnot.
Also, a wharton (upenn business) study finds that the cost of this plan is $330 billion over 10 years. Bump the limit to $50k per borrower and it goes to nearly $1 trillion.
But that’ll never happen right? And hey what’s another trill? Somebody else will take care of it right?

It’s simple economics
Aug 25, 2022, 8:00 AM

You have to trust in joe like you do in dabo. Look, those doctors making $200k a year with three cars and a boat parked in front of the pad could really use this $10k freebie. It’s gonna impact their lives in a big way and be transformative for our society.
Now look at the fiscal/monetary side of this deal. This spending is gonna reduce the deficit cuz that’s what happens when you pay for stuff without funding. It reduces taxes, puts downward pressure on inflation, and strengthens our economy.
Finally, you have to consider the impact this will have on runaway tuition prices. Now that debt forgiveness is on the table, that will increase students’ incentive to be responsible about taking out loans and universities will respond accordingly, that’s to say they’ll lower tuition prices.
Do you see how this works? Biden defeated covid, he got us out of Afghanistan, and he’s led the biggest economic expansion in American history. He is the greatest president of our generation and has earned your trust. Plus if any of this stuff doesn’t work out, he’ll just get jeff bezos to pay for everything. Like i said, it’s simple economics.

Biden himself received more than $64.5 million from individuals in higher education during his 2020 presidential campaign, while Democrats as a whole have raked in at least 70% of all political donations from the industry.

They didn't intend for you to get anything. If you sent your child to Clemson and didn't run up huge student debts you obviously aren't a Democrat. If you were a Democrat that well off you'd have sent your child to a more liberal "indoctrination center," I meant "university." So Uncle Joe didn't intend for you to benefit. You didn't vote for him. That's what this is all about so just pay your taxes and be quiet. Go Tigers!

I don’t think it is the doctors and engineers (like my kids) that are whining about needing someone else to pay their loans for them. Most of them can and/ or have paid back their loans. It’s the people with advanced degrees in library science who don’t want the only job they can get at McDonald’s and those that rode government programs all the way through school and now are too lazy to use their degree to actually work at a job.

I am not discounting education, I just think some common sense about what you want it to do for you can go a long way. I got a 4 year degree and went to work and had a very successful career. All of the faculty in the department at Clemson tried to convince me to get a masters degree. They really tried to sell the program. It was totally unnecessary and I couldn’t afford it because we were newly married and didn’t have 2 nickels to rub together so my necessity was to get to work. I understand their need to keep students in school to fill their classrooms but at that time it didn’t make sense for me and looking back 38 years later it would have been worthless for me to stay in school any longer. There are areas of study where an advanced degree is cost effective or maybe even critical to getting a good job after graduation, but that wasn’t the case in my situation or my kids’. We all graduated in fields where you could take a 4 year degree and get a good job that will provide a comfortable existence for our families.

Govt loans are stoking huge tuition inflation. This just makes it worse. Getting an education shouldn’t force people to become indentured servants. And you can’t just say, ok, well never mind about paying us back. That doesn’t fix it. Cut way back on federal loans. Crack down on private lenders. Then tuition prices will reflect actual value.
I love clemson football, but good lord, how many scholarships could the school have issued with all the money it’s put into athletic facilities.
Dollars are getting misallocated because schools are awash in easy, dumb money. Erasing debt just isn’t the answer. Gotta turn off the spigot. This is the exact opposite.
