So basically the Gamecock game ended up meaning nothing

Strictly In terms of the playoff.

South Carolina didn’t get boosted up at all. And we are in the same position of win and in as we would be.

Even if we had beaten SC, do you think we would have stayed in with a loss to SMU? I feel like no. So we are in the same exact spot as well.

Only thing it changes is our playoff seeding

Oh no they are still trying to figure out if Clemson can be left out as a conference champion. They wouldn't have a problem leaving out another ACC champion.

Or make it if we win the conference we don’t get a first round bye

That's never been a guarantee. The top 4 ranked conference champions were getting the byes. Clemson is not getting one of those spots.

Only way we get a first round buy is if UNLV beats Boise State, and we of course beat SMU. That’s it , that’s the only scenario.

With the new format, there isn't a way to leave Clemson out if they beat SMU, given the current rankings.

There are six conference championships this weekend involving a ranked team:

AAC- Tulane (NR) vs Army (24)
Mountain West- UNLV(20) vs Boise State(10)
Big 12- Iowa State(16) vs Arizona State(15)
SEC-Georgia(5) vs Texas(2)
B1G- Penn State(3) vs Oregon(1)
ACC- Clemson(17) vs SMU(8)

No one is going to credit Army with a win over unranked Tulane more than a Clemson win over a #8 SMU. Worse case scenario with a win is the 5th ranked Conference Champ and doesn't get a bye.

Win and In.

I told some coot they would be 14th and Miami would be in front of them. He laughed. Haven't heard a word since.

Tough for SC that their losses were against Ole Miss/Bama - committee really looking at body of work this year vs. how good you actually are down the stretch (as they penalized FSU last season).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think a win and we may have jumped Boise

Dec 3, 2024, 7:41 PM

then the committee would have a real tough decision if we lost to SMU. Would you have punished us and moved us out? Our loss made it easy on the committee.

I don’t think they would’ve put a 10-3 Clemson team in over a nine and three SEC team. I just don’t see it.

In the grand scheme it didn't change much. Probably cost us a guaranteed bye if we win and cost us a home first game if we lost. So it put us where we have to win to get in and very likely traveling for the first wknd instead of home field advantage.
