Expanding the ACC into new markets

I think it would be interesting to add SMU to the ACC
Its a Texas team that would open up recruiting for the ACC into the fertile Texas talent pool.
It could be a huge increase in coverage in the Texas area.
Would be fun to see if Venables can stop The Chad.
And would put ND in a "fish or cut bait" situation about becoming a full fledged member
I would much rather have them than someone like West VA.
They have a very large upside potential even though they were terrible when Chad took them over

for recruiting? Has Texas A &M sent many recruits to the coots? And how would having 15 members put pressure on Notre Dame? Are they supposed to believe that ACC football is about to fill up and they won't be allowed to join if they want to?

these type schools are going to face some tough decisions when paying players ramps up. I'm thinking schools like Duke, Notre Dame, Wake will decide they don't want to play in that realm.

to be the 15th team and from what I've read, they also have they choice of whom to bring with them if they decide to come. The ACC can not "pressure" them until the contract is up.

I disagree with the premise that adding a Tx school opens up recruiting....
To that point SMU would be one of my last choices... their football team stinks and they seem to be more focused on basketball. I would choose Baylor if I were to pick a Tx school.
Just sayin'

IF the ACC were to expand, an Ohio team would make more sense like Ohio U or Miami of Ohio. Cincinnati would be nice.
I just don't see a small Texas school adding much. Texas is the only big fish left in terms of radically expanding the reach of a conference. And I think it's just a matter of time(5-10 years) before they go SEC or PAC 12. The Big 12 can't really expand without going after ACC teams or really small schools like ULa, SMU, or Tulsa. So eventually the renevue with shrink and they'll join a bigger conference.

If the ACC could add a B12-4+2 team, or could some how be able to snag a Vandy or Penn St that wouldn't be bad. WVU is probably the only P5 team that I wouldn't want in the ACC because their fans are terrible. As a Cardinal fan I'd like to see Cini in the ACC. They were our oldest rival in football, and in some ways it would be a shame to me to not see them get into the P5. Their basketball is good, metro area is large, and it does threaten B10 country when it comes to recruting. Whatever happens I just hope any addition to the ACC in the future is one that only improves it.

SMU does not bring in enough money to warrant the travel costs for all sports teams.
