New pfp player spotlight

Todays spotlight will be a double feature since there are two #58s for Clemson this year.

So our first spotlight will be on #58 Aidan Hydrick. He is a redshirt freshman defensive lineman for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.

Aidan “Joined Clemson as a walk-on in 2024 and enters 2025 having played one career snap in one game appearance.”.

He “Lettered at Briarcrest Christian School … was an all-region selection for Division 2-AAA in 2023 … posted eight tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble amid his 27 tackles as a senior before electing to walk on at Clemson.”.

He is “majoring in general engineering.”.

Here is his bio: https://clemsontigers.com/sports/football/roster/season/2025/aidan-hydrick/

Here is his Hudl profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/9805055/Aidan-Hydrick

Here is his instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aidanhydrick/

Here is his twitter: https://x.com/AidanHydrick7
Our second player spotlight is #58 Holden Caspersen. He is a redshirt graduate senior long snapper for the 2025 Clemson Tigers.

Holden “Joined Clemson as a walk-on in 2021 and enters 2025 having previously appeared in 43 career games … second-team All-ACC selection at long snapper by Phil Steele in 2024 … praised by Dabo Swinney for the consistency of his snaps with regard to laces already being positioned out for holders on placekicks.”.

He “Snapped at Roswell (Ga.) High School … named as a five-star snapping prospect by Rubio Long Snapping.”.

In 2021 Holden “Appeared in two games while redshirting … made collegiate debut vs. SC State … snapped on Clemson’s final two punts vs. UConn.”.

In 2022 he “Earned starting long snapper job on punts prior to the season opener against Georgia Tech and served in that role for all 14 contests … All-ACC Academic Team selection … made a special teams tackle at Notre Dame … added another special teams tackle vs. Louisville … recorded a tackle vs. No. 24 North Carolina.”.

In 2023 he was “Named as Clemson’s starting long snapper for placekicks coming out of fall camp … snapped in all 13 games … All-ACC Academic Team selection … snapped for placekicker Jonathan Weitz’s legacy-setting 3-for-3 performances in wins against South Carolina and Kentucky to close the season.“.

In 2024 “Once again assumed starting long snapping duties for placekicks and snapped in all 14 games … earned second-team All-ACC recognition from Phil Steele … All-ACC Academic Team selection … snapped for Nolan Hauser’s game-winning 56-yard walk-off field goal to win the ACC Championship Game vs. No. 8 SMU.”.

Everyone praises Nolan for his game winning kick in the Acc championship game (as they should) but that kick probably never would have been made if Holden didn’t snap a perfect ball to our holder. The good snap and hold definitely is what helped Nolan make that kick.

Holden “earned degree in financial management in May 2024 … completed microinternships with Credit Suisse in New York in spring 2022, with Google in California in spring 2023 and with Gallo Winery in Atlanta in spring 2024 … opted to walk-on at Clemson over scholarship offers from Tulane, Stetson and Kennesaw State … three-time ACC Honor Roll selection (2021-23) … three-time All-ACC Academic Team honoree (2022-24) … NFF Hampshire Honor Society member.”.

58 Seasons Ago Clemson Football Finished 6-4 in 1967

TLDR Version:
- All Clemson players willing to give 110% rubbed Howard’s Rock for the first time!!

Five Clemson players are named AP First-Team ALL ACC:
- OL Wayne Mass
- OL Harry Olszewski
- DL Ronnie Duckworth
- LB Jimmy Catoe
- DB Frank Liberatore

- And Clemson players paint their shoes orange before upsetting NC St for the ACC Title!

According to ClemsonTigers.com:

“In 1967, the national average for a gallon of gas was 35 cents. Buying a first-class stamp would set you back six cents. A ticket to a movie was $1.25.”

https://clemsontigers.com/1967-team-50-year-anniversary/

Season Overview:

According to Wikipedia:

“The 1967 Clemson Tigers football team was an American football team that represented Clemson University in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) during the 1967 NCAA University Division football season. In its 28th season under head coach Frank Howard, the team compiled a 6–4 record (6–0 against conference opponents), won the ACC championship, and outscored opponents by a total of 166 to 128.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_Clemson_Tigers_football_team

ClemsonTigers.com adds:

“The 1967 team, guided by Clemson legend Frank Howard, captured the league title with a 6-0 record. It was the sixth and final ACC title (the Tigers also won the league in 1956, 1958, 1959, 1965 and 1966) for Howard, who retired in 1969 after 30 years guiding the Clemson program.”

https://clemsontigers.com/1967-team-50-year-anniversary/

Worthy of Note:

According to ClemsonTigers.com:

“The perfect ACC season had many high points, including a 14-6 win over No. 10 NC State and its “white shoes” defense. Assistant athletic trainer and Clemson legend Herman McGee gathered orange paint from eight stores in the area, as Clemson wore orange cleats for the first time.

As it is today, the highlight of the regular season came a week after the NC State contest, when the Tigers claimed a 23-12 win at South Carolina to secure the ACC championship. Buddy Gore broke the single-season rushing record with 1,045 yards and finished the year eighth in the nation in rushing.”

https://clemsontigers.com/1967-team-50-year-anniversary/

ClemsonTigers.com also adds the following:

“Oct. 28, 1967 – Alabama and Bear Bryant came to Clemson to face Frank Howard’s Tigers before a sellout crowd at Clemson. Bryant’s team won the close game, 13-10.

Nov. 18, 1967 – Clemson painted its shoes orange for the NC State game and the Tigers upset the No. 10 Wolfpack 14-6. Clemson clinched a tie for the ACC championship with the victory, the sixth and final ACC title of Frank Howard’s celebrated career. The Tigers had to get the orange paint from eight stores in the area. NC State’s defense had worn white shoes all season and that was the reason for the ploy.

Nov. 25, 1967 – Clemson beat South Carolina 23-12 to claim the ACC Championship. Buddy Gore broke the ACC single-season rushing record with 1,045 yards and finished the season eighth in the nation in rushing.”

https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-football-historical-timeline/

And Wikipedia adds the following:

“Jimmy Addison and Frank Liberatore were the team captains. The team's statistical leaders included Jimmy Addison with 924 passing yards, Buddy Gore with 1,045 rushing yards and 54 points scored, and Phil Rogers with 429 receiving yards.

Five Clemson players were selected by the Associated Press as first-team players on the 1967 All-Atlantic Coast Conference football team: back Buddy Gore; offensive tackle Wayne Mass; offensive guard Harry Olszewski; defensive end Ronnie Duckworth; linebacker Jimmy Catoe; and defensive back Frank Liberatore.”

October 21 at Duke W 13–7
October 28 Alabama* L 10–13

November 18 No. 10 NC State W 14–6
November 25 at South Carolina W 23–12

With yet another win over the Gamechickens, Clemson now leads the series vs. South Carolina 38-24-3.

Also in 1967:

According to ClemsonWiki:

“January 8: The council of the National Collegiate Athletic Association places the University of South Carolina on two years' probation for violations of regulations involving financial aid to athletes. The council cited South Carolina for one infraction involving academic standards and three dealing with financial aid.

February 20: Clemson is shifted from Oconee County to Pickens County in a swap of ten square miles, the lower Clemson area being exchanged for wilderness at the north end of Pickens County.

August 17: An incoming freshman class of 1,750 arrives.”

https://clemsonwiki.com/wiki/1967

And also from ClemsonWiki:

“October 6: Clemson plays its first-ever soccer match, defeating Furman, 4-0, in Greenville. Frank Schmidt scores the Tigers' first-ever goal with an assist from Gary Fleetwood.”

https://clemsonwiki.com/wiki/1967

As for the orange painted shoe game:
- According to ClemsonSportsTalk:

“On a windy November 18, 1967, the tenth-ranked Wolfpack of NC State showed up in Death Valley to face unranked Clemson. Both were undefeated in ACC play. NC State had risen to number three in the polls before falling to Penn State on the road a week earlier. A win over Clemson would clinch the conference title for the confident Pack. The men from Raleigh had exploded on the national scene with a 16-6 upset of number two Houston in the Astrodome in early October.

In the week before the NC State game Buddy Gore and some others concocted the scheme to paint the team’s shoes orange. Legendary trainer Herman McGee found enough orange paint needed to paint all the shoes. Coach Howard did not know of the plan until game day. Since the shoes were already painted by that time, what could he do but go along! One of Howard’s assistants, Don Wade, had played for the old coach and had been a real stand-out. He was also involved in the caper. Wade commented that he and McGee obtained the paint from about nine different places. It was tough to find orange paint suitable for shoes. Tough as it was, orange paint was found to coat every pair on the roster.

When the Tigers rubbed Howard’s Rock and ran down the hill in orange jerseys, white pants, and orange shoes, the crowd erupted even more than usual. Then the game began.

Early in the third quarter, the Tigers struck. Facing a third down, eleven to go at the Pack’s 27, the Tigers needed a big play. Buddy Gore remembers it this way, according to former assistant SID Sam Blackmon, “NC State was in a defense that would provide double coverage on the wideouts and forced the linebackers to cover the man coming out of the backfield. I was not the primary receiver. After all, I only caught seven passes my entire career.”

Gore beat the State linebacker. He looked toward Jimmy Addison, the fine Tiger QB and he, according to Gore, “Looked right back at me.” Addison tossed a pass to Gore, who ran for a touchdown.”

Never forget the sight of the orange shoes . Highlight of the game was Wayne Mass running off the field after a big play skipping like a seven-year-old and pointing to blood on his pants and then pointing back across the field indicating that it was from the highly touted State DL who he was lined up against ! Also was in Columbia for my 1st away coot game and saw Gore reach the 1,000 yard mark to set the record . Great year to be a student.
