Thanks O.J! Periodic Table Countdown! Join us as we count our way down to Hydrogen and the kick off of Clemson Football 2025!

Mercury is not only an element, but the name of a Roman god of messages, and the name of the nearest planet to the sun. Mercury has the lowest melting point of any stable metal. Fish concentrate mercury in their bodies, so human consumption of apex predators such as sharks, tuna, marlin, etc. can lead to toxic effects such as Minamata disease.
Mercury was the name of a famous football player, but not from Clemson, West Texas State.. https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-forum/message/r.i.p-mercury-morris....-35521243
Mercury signed the entire Clemson DL to an NIL deal: https://www.on3.com/nil/news/mercury-clemson-tigers-football-nil-deal-defensive-line-avengers/

Todays player spotlight is #80 Tristan Smith. Tristan Smith is a transfer senior WR for the 2025 Clemson Tigers. He is one of 3 transfers for Clemson this 2025 season.
There is hope that he will have a breakout year this coming season for the Tigers. He has already showed his potential in Clemson’s spring game this year. He had five catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. His highlight of the game came when he made a contested catch and ran past 2 defenders he was in between for his first touchdown in a Clemson uniform.
Last season at Southeast Missouri State, he “caught 76 passes for 934 yards and six touchdown receptions in addition to rushing for one touchdown in 11 games … “. He also had 3 games where he had 100+ receiving yards last year.
Here is his Clemson bio: https://clemsontigers.com/sports/football/roster/season/2025/tristan-smith-wr/
Here is his spring game touchdown(The video is on the next slide after the picture.): https://www.instagram.com/p/DIFZ8n5RuME/?img_index=1
Here is his hudl profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10990291/Tristan-Smith ( I would check out his SEMO highlights on here. He has some great highlights on there.)
And here is his episode of Beyond The Paw: https://youtu.be/0lCD7fqtJ9c?si=T4YqcNtkk2O_R_5O

Lol yea I can see it. Sidenote. I started watching snl seriously around 2023 and been a fan ever since. I’ve seen some oldie skits tho that were funny.
Are you a fan of snl too or were you a fan of the old snl? I know it’s now more liberal now then it was back 20+ years ago. I don’t really mind it but some people hate it.

80 Seasons Ago Clemson Football Finished 6-3-1 in 1945

In many ways, it is a season of celebration!
World War 2 finally comes to an end!! The war in Europe ends in May. The war in the Pacific ends in August – less than a month before the start of the 1945 season.
Overview:
According to Wikipedia: “The 1945 Clemson Tigers football team was an American football team that represented Clemson College during the 1945 college football season. In its sixth season under head coach Frank Howard, the team compiled a 6–3–1 record (2–1–1 against conference opponents), finished fourth in the conference, and outscored opponents by a total of 211 to 73.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1945_Clemson_Tigers_football_team
Worthy of Note:
According to ClemsonWiki:
July 23: The Clemson football team practices for the first time this year. There was no spring practice due to the wartime necessities.
https://clemsonwiki.com/wiki/1945
And according to ClemsonTigers.com:
“Sept. 22, 1945 – Fourteen Clemson backs netted 516 yards in a 76-0 victory over Presbyterian. Freshman Bobby Gage led the Tigers with 144 yards, including 88 yards on a touchdown run, the longest run from scrimmage by a Tiger in the decade of the 1940s. The Tigers had 11 rushing touchdowns in the game, still a Clemson record.”
https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-football-historical-timeline/
Wikipedia adds the following:
“Center Ralph Jenkins was the team captain. The team's statistical leaders included tailback Marion Butler with 239 passing yards, fullback Dewey Quinn with 392 rushing yards, and Butler and fullback Jim Reynolds with 30 points scored (5 touchdowns each).[3] Tackle Bob Turner and center Ralph Jenkins were selected as first-team players on the 1945 All-Southern Conference football team.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1945_Clemson_Tigers_football_team
And having now served his country, Pig®’s uncle, June Pruitt, joins the Clemson football team. This multi-sport star also plays basketball and baseball for Clemson. Very impressive!!
June Pruitt as shown in the 1945 Wake Forest game program:

The tie with the Gamechicken was the second tie in the head-to-head series. Clemson’s record with the Chickens now becomes 28-13-2.
Also in 1945: - Finally: The end of the deadliest war in human history!
According to the National Museum of the U.S. Navy:
“With the death of Adolph Hitler on April 30, 1945, Germany had no other recourse but to surrender, which took place on May 7. Four countries assumed administrative control of Germany: United States, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, and France.”
https://www.history.navy.mil/content/history/museums/nmusn/explore/photography/wwii/wwii-europe/german-surrender.html#:~:text=With%20the%20death%20of%20Adolph,%2C%20Soviet%20Union%2C%20and%20France.
Then in August (Caution: This is NOT for the faint of heart):
“So on the morning of August 6, 1945, the American B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay, dropped the world’s first atom bomb over the city of Hiroshima.
What Happened in Japan That Day
The temperature near the blast site reached 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit. The sky seemed to explode. Birds ignited in midair; asphalt boiled. People over two miles away burst into crumbling cinders. Others with raw skin hanging in flaps around their hips leaped shrieking into waterways to escape the heat. Men without feet stumbled about on the charred stumps of their ankles. Women without jaws screamed incoherently for help. Bodies described as "boiled octopuses" littered the destroyed streets. Children, tongues swollen with thirst, pushed floating corpses aside to soothe their scalded throats with bloody river water.
One eyewitness at Hiroshima recalled, “I climbed Hikiyama Hill and looked down. I saw that Hiroshima had disappeared.... I was shocked by the sight.... Of course I saw many dreadful scenes after that — but that experience, looking down and finding nothing left of Hiroshima — was so shocking that I simply can't express what I felt.... Hiroshima didn't exist — that was mainly what I saw — Hiroshima just didn't exist.”
Approximately 80,000 people were killed as a direct result of the blast, and another 35,000 were injured. At least another 60,000 would be dead by the end of the year from the effects of the atomic fallout.
What Happened in America That Day
The President released a press release, which read in part, “Sixteen hours ago an American airplane dropped one bomb on Hiroshima and destroyed its usefulness to the enemy. …. If they do not now accept our terms they may expect a rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this earth.”
A 21-year-old American second lieutenant recalled, “When the bombs dropped and news began to circulate that [the invasion of Japan] would not, after all, take place, that we would not be obliged to run up the beaches near Tokyo assault-firing while being mortared and shelled, for all the fake manliness of our facades we cried with relief and joy. We were going to live. We were going to grow up to adulthood after all.”
Aftermath
One week later, on August 14, 1945, after the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, the Japanese surrendered. World War II, the deadliest conflict in human history, with between 50 and 85 million fatalities, was finally over.
https://www.nps.gov/articles/trumanatomicbomb.htm#:~:text=One%20week%20later%2C%20on%20August,million%20fatalities%2C%20was%20finally%20over.
A most horrific war has finally ended!
