Should Lawson start over Denhoff?

I rewatched the SMU game, my God Denhoff just gets manhandled every play. It’s honestly hard to watch.
Lawson comes in an immediately deflects a ball down and makes a good play.
Those of you who have paid more attention to Lawson, is he a better option?

Lawson is a pass-rush specialist. He is very soft against the run. Denhoff, while not great, is better against the run than Lawson.
Texas has a great run game, so I'd expect Denhoff to start and then bring Lawson in on passing downs so he has fresh legs to get after the passer.

Both can’t handle the edge for run support. That’s why we see more 3 LB sets. For Texas, if Capehart is healthy enough to take more snaps, they might consider moving Woods to DE in short yardage situations.

Lawson is faster and more explosive than Denoff. The only thing that concerns me about Lawson is that he sometimes loses contain on the edge going inside for a sack.

Have you noticed Denhoff ends nearly every play on the ground? He either trips chasing someone down or gets pancaked.

Yes, same ol Dabo. Gonna play his upper class men every time over the lower class men. That’s why he will not use the portal like the other teams do. If he does he will play a transfer behind both the upper and lower class men.

I like us better against Texas with Woods at end until true passing situations. Our depth at Tackle allows us to put him there and be stronger on the edges. Denhoff is a good kid, but a non factor for us. He doesn't contribute anything in terms of athleticism, and he's undersized, but not twitchy like Lawson, so yeah. Lawson if choosing between the two, but I prefer Woods with Capehart and Paige inside.

Really depends on the type of offense we are facing.
Denhoff is better against the run, Lawson is a better pass rusher.
I just hate that we didn't pursue a DE in the portal. I'm glad that we aren't making that same mistake again this year.

Yes and I also prefer Hoffler over Denhoff. I think Hoffler and Mayo can be really good players over time.

No but the only reason I can come up with has been the inability of the front 7 to fill the correct run gap. Being a more seasoned player Denhoff provides more of a guarantee he will be where he’s supposed to. But… as has previously been pointed out, he lacks the ability to do anything about it once he gets there

Lawson should get the majority of the snaps, and let Denhoff come in for a limited amount of snaps where he can give 100% knowing he is just giving Lawson a breather
|
