By the time we say portal all the good ones will be gone. Brown at Kentucky and Conception at NC State are proven elite guys. Obviously we need help on the defensive side as we have given up more yards and drives this year since I can remember

This is correct. In Mississippi’s case, they often commit to deals with rival players immediately after the game when they meet on the field.

Judging by our past “transfers” we’ll probably bring in a 3-4 string bench warmer who would only see the field against the SC States and Citadels of our schedule.

That of course would be a waste of time but until I see different, I have a feeling that’s what we’ll do. Hoping to see some GOOD/GREAT transfers instead of ones that prove to be “roster fillers”.

The problem is tampering. The 4 and 5 star talent pin the portal have already pre-negotiated a NIL deal with a school before they even declare for the portal. Outside of that, the portal is full of 2nd and 3rd stringers that are solely leaving for more playing time. These guys don’t have pre-negotiated NIL deals and are truly ‘available’. The problem is they normally aren’t any better than our 2 or 3 deep and we would be taking them at positions where we need depth, so their opportunity for playing time would not considerably increase. Many of these guys will go down a division and others will find no home at all.

1 - Some folks will maintain that they won't believe Dabo will use the portal until they actually see it happen.

2 - Once Dabo brings in a player or players from the portal, those same folks will be critical and judgmental of the players selected.

Whoever we do ultimately bring in as our first real portal player better have a real difference making season or alot of people aren't gonna know how to act.
