Nothing good ever comes from involving the feds and congress. Politicians are a blight worse than the virus.

Didn't know Radakovich was testifying to Congress...

So we have the NCAA (an incompetent organization) asking Congress (an incompetent and dysfunctional organization) to help with the NIL issue. Folks enjoy what's left of college football because it will never be the same now that dumb (NCAA) and dumber (Congress) are working together to "fix it".

Yep. Wife and I and rest of family have decided that this is probably the last good year of college football, and we probably won't be donating or buying season tickets once the players become professional athletes.

So maybe 10% of football players will be able to work out some sort of deal, and based on that you're going to stop donating funds to assist the other 90% of the team, and every single other sport at Clemson?

Former OH St Pres and their AD were both involved in the NCAA committees that worked on this. No surprise if what they developed favors large schools. Havent heard much about this with all the other things going on.

Corey Booker is one of the many problems in Washington. He is a real zero.

there needs to be set of rules or standards that doesn't lead to an uneven or unfair environment for recruiting.
However, right now, congress has more important issues to worry about than college athletics.
That said, Cory Booker is a grandstanding idiot.

there has to be some set of standards or it becomes the wild west or basically let the free market completely take over. Which in this case would be a bad thing. The backdoor 'legal' funneling of money will be ridiculous at some places. I guess you cant make those transactions while recruiting but after one year of it falling in the hands of current players, coaches will have to start selling that to top prospects.

What a blow hard! He is one of the worst actors in the Senate in my opinion. He feigns indignation the way Eddie Haskell in Leave It to Beaver feigned complimenting Mrs Cleaver. Overacting doesn't begin to describe it. I will give it to him. He still looks like he could line up at tight end which he did do for a bit at Stanford.

While I'm not a huge fan of Radakovich, I hope he told Blumenthal where he could go. We had the player that had a stroke prior to ever playing at Clemson, possibly prior to ever enrolling, and he was told immediately that his scholarship would be honored. I can't speak for other schools but I know that Clemson honors commitments to their athletes.

need to come together and agree on how they'll permit this thing to go down. Once agreed, any school that doesn't like it can leave. Any school in a state like California that creates legislation that prohibits them from following the rules can leave.
And this, the last two paragraphs:
"At one point, in fact, during a debate about whether some schools had made a practice of not renewing scholarships to players who had major injuries — something Emmert and Radakovich denied — Blumenthal issued a warning that lying to Congress was punishable by law.
It was a moment that perfectly captured the arrogance of college sports: A denial of something that has clearly happened and does happen, chipping away at the credibility of the NCAA. Congress certainly has bigger things to worry about right now in the middle of a pandemic than trying to save college sports from itself, but at least someone is still willing to keep them honest."
A denial of something that has clearly happened and does happen? Who? Who is he referring to? What schools "had made a practice of not renewing scholarships to players who had major injuries"?
