And ruin the whole north vs south vibe in college football. This talk of rejecting FSU (and eventually Clemson, Miami, etc) in order to “expand their market” by adding the likes of UNC/NCST or UVA/ VT is just passing on the chance to strengthen the conference with better football. The complete chicken ##### move will put SEC dominance to rest if B1G chooses to capitalize.

The SEC will still dominate NCAA football if:
Big Ten adds Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC
while the
SEC adds NCST and a school from Virginia.
Yes it is true that Michigan beat Bama yesterday. But this is the worst Bama team in ten years. They don’t have a NFL quarterback on that team. Past teams have had both Jaylon Hurts and Tua.
Furthermore, it helps the SEC if they have another conference to be competitive with. It draws more interest$$$.
Yes it is true that the national champion is not going to come from the SEC footprint this year. But I can count on one hand how many times that has happened since the south fully integrated its football teams in the late (late) 1970s.

Count how many times a school from within one of the following states did not win at least a share of the national championship since 1980.
1) South Carolina
2) Georgia
3) Tennessee
4) Oklahoma
5) Any state along the Gulf Coast
Even Georgia Tech won a share in 1990.

Not so sure but in my mind the gap is slightly closing with the addition of Washington, Oregon and USC, of course the SEC will be bringing in 2 powers as well! Probably know more how all this worked out by year 4 or 5.

So true on all accounts. Reminds me of our 2017 team with kb2.
Bama struggled in the secondary too. More busts than I can remember. Didn't have a dominant oline either. Young team all around.

The Bama Offensive Line is the biggest reason. They couldn't figure out how to block the Michigan pass rush and was confused the whole game on their blocking assignments. Tua, Hurts, or even Trevor Lawrence would have struggled behind that confused/porous Bama line in the Michigan game...

team in the state of South Carolina to secure THAT TV market. Instead of picking a winner, they went with Little Brother.
The team that really should have drawn and quartered their BOT back in the day was Georgia Tech. They were safely IN the SEC, and chose to get out. Great move on their part, true Brainiacs they were. That move will continue to cost them about $50 million dollars a year or so, going forward.

Talking heads will talk about "markets" but the TV people will know its about brands. All the markets watch brands.
If the markets were so important... the ACC would have the best TV contract

Boston

Charlotte

on and on... the ACC has a TON of markets.
But the markets.. watch the brands.
So when UNC vs UVA is on but so is Clemson vs FSU...
Which game do you think those markets are watching?
TV people know.. when it comes to the contract offerings for new schools... it will work out.
Eyeballs and ratings are what matters... Brands > Markets.

If it were about expanding markets (states) above brands then why add Texas when A&M was already in. A conference committed to being the best wants the best brands.

It was a different time. The SEC talked to Clemson first, when we decided to stay with the ACC they moved to plan B.
Basketball was a moneymaker back then, before the one and done ruined the sport. ACC TV contacts actually were better than the SECs back then.

I think all the talk of rejecting FSU, Clemson, Miami is subterfuge. Once teams are available, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bidding war for the big programs (I’m talking internet of paying exit fees, what percentage of the payout you’ll receive immediately, etc).

I could easily see the SEC becoming an inferior regional conference in the future if Sankey sticks his nose up, assuming the collapse of the ACC as we know it.
Fox is after market share through the B1G. They just acquired the major brands of the SW & NW. If they brought on Clemson, FSU, Miami & say UNC it would create a national conference that, given the higher media revenues per program, could realistically overtake the SEC/ESPN crown on cfb.

There are very logical reasons why UNC and UVA are 1A and 1B of who the SEC and B1G want from the ACC.
Excluding Notre Dame.
