SEC Hype & AP Polls
Jul 26, 2017, 8:33 AM

SEC teams in Preseason vs Final AP Polls:
2016: 6 / 5 2015: 8 / 5 2014: 8 / 6 2013: 6 / 7
ACC teams in Preseason vs Final AP Polls:
2016: 4 / 5 2015: 3 / 3 2014: 3 / 4 2013: 3 / 4
So which 8 SEC teams make 2017 AP top25? Which 3 ACC teams ?

SEC: Bama, Auburn, UGA, Tennessee, A&M, LSU, UF, Kentucky.
ACC: Clemson, FSU, Louisville, Miami. (NC St, UNC, Pitt, VT are fringe teams).

I see 6 in the SEC and 5 in the ACC...
SEC: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee
ACC: FSU, Clemson, Miami, Louisville, VT
I could also see NC State or Pitt sneaking into the top 25. And there's also our half sibling Notre Dame

Not Pitt, because they lost their QB/RB and lost their bowl

But they'd probably have been ranked after that season in the SEC. I think FSU, Clemson, Miami, and Louisville will be ranked. VT probably won't because they lost their QB, even though they won 10 games last year. GT won 9 games and nobody's talking about them.

If you look at the preseason vs post season rankings for all the teams in each conference the past two years: Conference 2015 2016 ACC 11 -24 Big 12 -6 -1 Big 10 -67 -23 Pac 12 55 0 SEC 72 71
So as a whole, the Big 10 was actually way under ranked as a conference, but the over ranking of SEC teams is just pathetic.

If a team were ranked #10 preseason and finished #15 they were over ranked by 5; ranked #13 preseason and finishing #3 means they were under ranked by 10. Positive numbers = over ranked, negative = under ranked. I just totaled up all the teams' rankings for each conference.

The B1G was vastly overrated all season last year and that overrating allowed their teams to remain in the Top 25 at the end of the season.

If SEC teams had finished like ACC teams did last year...

There would probably be 7-8 teams ranked in the preseason.
Miami finished 9-4 GT finished 9-4 Clemson won the championship Louisville finished 9-4 FSU finished 10-3 NC State finished 7-6 but is expected to be good VT finished 10-4 UNC/Pitt both finished with 8 wins and are bringing in transfer QBs with experience
Starting with that many ranked teams in the league would virtually ensure that the ACC would end up with a number of top ten teams.
