SEC and the Big Tens books are closed for now

I am convinced unless two schools decide they want/can leave we won’t have expansion for 3-5 years if not longer . UNC and Notre Dame . I think the status quo benefits SEC and the Big Ten too much for them both to get creative in expansion. Sure will they accept the right candidate ? Yes . Will they do mental gymnastics to try and get to 20 schools ? No .

Am convinced that those 2 conferences will do exactly what they are TOLD to do by ESPN and FOX.

If ESPN is willing to use their own current tv contracts with two separate conferences to try to force reorganizing things the way they choose to, then I don't have much faith in what the conference boards, or even the Universities are doing.

Maybe no expansion in the SEC or BIG (which I disagree with - no way USC and UCLA stay out on an island for that long) but you can bet the house there will be other conference moves in the next 3-5 years.

The claim that the SEC is done with expansion bas been widely disputed, even by SEC homers in the press.

I wonder if UCLA and USC want to be on an island . Adding one school in the Pacific Northwest isn’t going to cure the travel budget . Having everyone else recruiting in a lesser conference out west could be attractive for the LA schools .

That’s Never The Case

Both conferences are ready to welcome the right institutions at all times. As soon as the Big 12 snatches any teams from the PAC 12, things will accelerate greatly.

But my point remains the same- there is only two schools who have an open invite to both conferences. Unc and notre dame . I bet I am proven right neither add anyone without at least adding of of these two schools .

We it starts it will happen quickly!
It’s going to be 2-3 super conferences, I’ll be surprised if ESPN can continue to pay so much in media rights
It’s going to be fun, Clemson won’t be left our because the Paw is an incredible brand!

The SEC and B1G should look at swapping out
Jul 17, 2022, 4:12 PM

Missouri for Nebraska. Each would likely be much happier and fare better longer term doing so. Nebraska, OK, Texas and TAMU would make for a heckuva westernmost 4-pack. Missouri fits better up there with Iowa, Illinois, Ohio and such. Today they are square pegs in round holes in it more for the expansion opps and security. Win wins.

Again, if the B1G or SEC want to control the playoff…they MUST GROW. 16 teams each don’t cut it…leaves too many schools that matter out.
UNC is important..but Clemson carrries the biggest stick outside of ND. It’s abt FB matchups

It's about the eyeballs and the prestige. Nationally, UNC brings more of both. Didn't say I like it, but it is what it is if you're writing the check for your TV network.

If you interviewed the BIG a month ago and asked if they were expanding, the answer would’ve been “NO”.
Last year right before OU and TX announced their moves to the SEC, the SEC would’ve said “nothing to see here, move along”

Clemson is not : usc or Texas nor is it even Oklahoma. It’s not in LA. The working assumption here is Clemson is marketable cause it was good at football the past 8 years. Clemson won’t get into the big ten that’s obvious. The question remains does it make long term -25-35 year sense to add a second South Carolina team ? Your working theory is you’re this giant brand capable to maintain a status for generations that move the financial situation for sec schools for generations to come . I don’t buy that. I know a 25 year old wrote an article for SI in which they looked at the AP top 25 and said who’s not in the sec or big ten? That’s the level of analysis that occurred . Clickbait .
