Saw a post about expanding playoffs.

This is my thoughts. Make it a 6 team playoff. 5 conference champs and 1 at large. Rankings still apply to determine seating. 1 and 2 would have a bye and 3-6 play each other in typical tournament fashion. That would actually give an advantage to #1 and #2 teams with an extra week off. Anywho... just thought I would share... carry on.

8 team playoff. 5 P5 conf champs with 3 at large bids and it will be the best 8 teams in all of college football so not an automatic that a mid major makes it but it could be that 1 or 2 make it, if the committee sees fit. The first round would be played at the higher seeds home field, followed by today’s format for the final four.

This has been discussed over and over.
Of all the possible “solutions” a 6 team playoff may be the worst possible idea. You may as well reduce it back to 2. The advantages of taking a week off in a 15 game season is too great. The ‘buy’ teams will win. Why expose 4 teams to an extra game for nothing?

To prevent something like last year from happening.

Where the #1 team was at a huge disadvantage from the last team in being a team that did not have to play a conference CG.

That game was 4 weeks prior to the playoff game. Not the same as the week before.

Four, or eight, but not 6. Nobody should have an advantage. However, there should be no team given an advantage of not having to play for a conference championship. Why should a team like Notre Dame get in on having to play only 12 games while everybody else has to play 13? "EVERYBODY" plays by the same rules, and they know that going in. So they either join in or stay at home. So you have 5 conferences, each with 2 divisions, and each with a championship game. The five winners advance as seeds #1-#5( could be based on final season standings) and the 5 losers are seeded #6-#8 based on several factors such as final record, strength of schedule or possible head to head match-ups. The two teams with the worst records are eliminated. In the event they all have the same records, then you might have to go back to those factors as mentioned above to determine which 3 advances, and which 2 go home Now, you would want to seed those lower teams so that they don't face each other again in the first round, ie, Georgia vs Bama, or say Clemson vs Mami, and your set. You have the first rounds played on the higher seeds stadiums( there's your advantage), then the semifinals and final are played at the various Major Bowl venues on a rotating schedule.

Just can’t let the college football championship turn into a “March Madness” kind of mess. Four teams and no more or we will see the demise of college football.
Game attendance (not here) will drop off and everyone will wait until “The January Jamboree”.
Some tho things are better left alone.

now you poll 4 teams instead of 2. it is still subjective but shouldn't be.

8 teams
5 conference Champs, 3 at large
No more than 2 teams from any conference. If there are 2 teams in your conference better than you, then you do not deserve to be in the playoff.

What if one of your conference champions happens to be ranked below #8 in the top 25?

Ah, the Notre Dame dream scenario. Why not just best 7 plus Notre Dame make the playoffs?

This is exactly what expanded playoffs will look like:

Thanks, folks - you’ve been a great crowd. I’ll be here all week. Try the veal.
Siriusly tho, anything that gives more weight to the actual conference championships is a good idea. Slipping Cousin Bama in through the back door after they don’t even appear in their championship game was a huuuge fail, imo.

Name a year where more than 5 teams realistically were on the level of the national championship team. You’ve seen it already with over half of the semifinal games being 3 score wins. The blowouts will only be worse if you expand to 6 or 8.

Stop kidding ourselves and the group of 5

Teams in the league MUST have a legitimate path to the playoffs or any outsider will think College Football is a joke. This aspect of BCS and the Playoffs is the joke.
Impolitely tell the Group Of 5 that we think they suck (we already tell them this because they can't get in anyway) and remove them from the league.
Then the current system is at least legit because all teams have a path.
This maintains the entertaining aspect of CF that every game must win.
Else just go back to the old AP thing where teams are aligned with their traditional bowls and there is a vote for the champ at the end. It can be moved from the AP to the Playoff Committee if need be.
