Must be pitching for PITT this weekend...31 K's out of 54 outs. As they say, "you can't steal first base" and must put the ball in play to have a chance. Something (or someone) has to change.

strike zone, and good opposing pitchers know just where to put the ball. Unless and until we show that we have improved enough to hit those pitches, we will continue to struggle mightily.
And, it CERTAINLY appears that our guys are "guessing" way too much, instead of trying to make contact with whatever pitch comes. No other way to explain some of the swings lately.

Negatory. For overall accomplishments, I'd go with Glavine-Maddux-Smoltz. And I'm not a Braves fan. Koufax was amazing for 5 years. Drysdale was excellent for a decade. Something of a tough luck pitcher because his Dodger mates would not give him many runs and he'd lose many low scoring games. The Braves trio was brilliant during the steroid era. Koufax and Drysdale had a higher mound and a bigger strike zone from 1963-1968. Ballfields were huge back in the day. Dodger Stadium fences have been moved in at least once over the years. The trio had to pitch for many years in the Launching Pad. Also, check out Sandy's record against the newly formed Mets and Colt 45s (eventually the Astros). Without these helpers, don't know if he gets HOF consideration. The Trio had to go up against many challenges Sandy/Don never faced. And the three Braves pitchers racked up many awards over a longer period of time.

Another thought about the best pitching combos. Remember, years ago, a pitcher was allowed to back guys off the plate, even hit them. Today, a pitcher is warned, thus giving the batters a more comfortable experience at the plate. Today's hitters can dig in, lean over the plate and reach about anything and drive it. Not so much in the past.

"Kong" Kingman had 442 HRs, a career .236 avg., and struck out 28% of the time. A good comparison with our guys apparent approach.
