You can watch Clemson when they are on ESPN3 on the WatchESPN app for Roku. That's how I watched the spring game. Not sure about NFL.

YES. Download the watch ESPN app. However, you must be a member of the selected subscribers to use it such as time Warner Cable or atnt universe

I use a Roku with the Sling TV to get all my football games. But, I had to upgrade to the better sports package so that I can use my Sling ID to log on to WatchESPN. Sling TV with the upgraded sports package is $25.
I love both my Roku and Sling TV. BUT, you must have really good Internet service.

I have basic Sling TV without any extra packages, and I'm able to use WatchESPN/ESPN3.

You can use WatchESPN with the basic SlingTV package, but not for ESPNU and the others in the extra sports package.

for $5 and ESPN3 can be viewed on a cell phone or tablet but not on a SONY smart TV with the Sling Television app, you can not "cast" (mirror) it from the phone or tablet to the TV.

Just ridiculous

My SONY Blu Ray player is a smart blu ray player, my Yamaha receiver is also "smart" to go along with my smart TV as well (also Dolby Atmos). All three have their own smartness built in and now I have to get a stick for more smartness.
Only feature the sticks should offer beyond those 3 should be the fact that the stick has a travel option, imo.

Those "smart devices" are sadly notorious for never being updated by their manufactures.
Get a Roku or Fire TV and never look back.
I have a fire TV and love it.

No a 4k TV is still required but not all devices are strong enough to push out 4k content.
4k content requires stronger hardware to make happen.

I have seen the option listed on my TV but have not seen the channel listed anywhere.
It was after football was over before I could get the active glasses to go with my TV.

I think ESPN 3D is dead.
3D TV for the most part is DOA rgiht now due to the glasses requirement.

So you have to have a subscription to watch the games anyway? So what's the point in the Roku or Sling TV? Just so you can watch on other devices? Forgive my ignorance...I only have Netflix.

Roku is a device you can hook up to your TV to watch Netflix, Hulu, or whatever else. Sling TV is a service kinda like cable, except that it's delivered via the internet, has fewer channels compared to cable/satellite, and costs a heck of a lot less with no contract.. For me, it's perfect as I already have ridiculously fast internet service and really only want ESPN and a few other channels, most of which Sling TV offers.

Exactly! I have to pay for high speed Internet anyways for work. Up until last year when I got Sling TV, I never once paid for cable. I have always just used my antenna.
I finally broke down because of missing so many sporting events and because Sling was so inexpensive compared to cable.

Roku is a device Sling TV is a service.
Sling TV is what you get so that you can gain access to WatchESPN.
It cost 20 dollar a month vs the 80 I was paying comcast.

That's the easiest way to remember it.
When someone says "slingbox", they're usually referring to the device that Sling makes that's an alternative to Roku.
SlingTV is the service, and can be had on Xbox One, PS4, etc. Not tied to a specific device.
I have the service with Cinema Extras and Sports Extras. For $30/month, it's a much better deal than cable.

you can watch just about anything you want and it's generally a good bit cheaper than cable or satellite although you may need a Leaf antenna and/or a basic cable/Sling TV package for local/sports channels.
