Every single time we get ready to travel to Winston-Salem, I remember this play. Not to mention, a very exciting 4th quarter overall! Rest easy, Gaines. I'm sure our guys will make you proud again up there.

I agree completely. I still remember where I was when watching this on TV. Think of it every time we play wake.

was an absolute miserable football game until Gaines saved the day with this momentum changing man-handling of the Wake holder.

As much as I like the all white have to admit I liked the purple britches on occasion. The purple jerseys with the white pants back in the early 90's was a fave too. Always remember the NCState game when purple jerseys debuted at the top of the hill.

Ever wonder what might have happened if Gaines DIDN'T

make that game changing play? A sad loss to Wake Forest. Would all the same moves that were made two years later happen in 2006 instead of 2008? Probably not, as Pops had already gifted TB the win over the No. 9 'Noles earlier in the year. The season could surely have gotten ugly, though.

I was there too and that was a moment for the ages. It was a cold, windy, drizzly day but Gaines warmed Clemson hearts everywhere!
Miss you GA!

That play was at least as memorable as Spiller joking and breaking ankles against GaT.

I was there as a 12 year old kid bleeding orange since birth and was ready to leave that game early because of how bad it was going. I kept asking my dad to leave. Then Gaines made that play and the rest is history. I’ve never in the following 16 years left early or even considered leaving early.
Gaines taught me to never give up & Gaines taught me how to be a true, loyal Tiger fan that day in Winston Salem as a 12 year old kid. I’ll never forget that day and the impact that play has had on my life.
RIP Gaines One of our greatest players in my lifetime and that 12 year old kid’s idol.
Here’s to hoping Gaines brings us a little magic this Saturday ??

Man i was there. The first 3 quarters were miserable and then this play happened and then all of a sudden we just flipped a switch and let them have it.

Gaines was such a big dude - look how small his helmet looked!
We were down in Charleston drinking our misery away at Big John’s. Then Gaines turned the game around - he was the spark that fired up The Tigers! I’ll never forget that play!
Rest In Peace Big Man!!!
