Riley made comments when he was hired that are ringing true

I remember when Riley was hired a comment was made along the lines of 'The playbook will be small and simple'. 'The defenses will know what is coming'. This has proven to be true. . .

Just to not mis-quote, he did add how they will execute so perfectly that even though the defense knows what is about to happen, they won't be able to stop it. . . I think his philosophy was/is wrong, and this is why there is not any eye candy.

What is Chad Morris doing these days? Still watching his kids play, or is he available again? I miss that offense.

I’ve thought the same thing and agree with you.

If the playbook that we carry into the game each week is smaller, it’s probably easier on the defense to prepare. No wonder this offense requires every single person on every play to execute perfectly to actually get things rolling.

Granted, “perfectly” is probably a stretch, but the coaches tend to allude to a single person not doing their job and it derailing the entire play / drive. I still think most of our issues can be addressed by better QB play.

Depends. Vince Lombardi did pretty well with that philosophy. So did Danny Ford.

Lombardi's philosophy, gained from studying with the Jesuits, was to run one essential play (the sweep) but to know it so well and so intimately that it could be infinitely adapted on the fly for any situation.

Before you scoff too much at the notion, we Clemson old timers will remember when Danny Ford's teams ran the triple option BACKWARDS during pre-game warm ups, to emphasize the embodiment of this principle.

I wonder if 60 passes in a game was part of that design?

A. Randall had 23 touches for 174 yards. The only 'new' wrinkle in our system. Is that Randall or the lack of film?

I miss the motions and shifts from Morris' offense.

He was too quick to abandon the running game, too. I recall watching us play in Columbia one year. We were running it down their throats, but Chad gave up on the run and even dug out dumb trick plays with Sammy passing.

Yep, that didn’t make sense at the time.

I’ve always wondered if that was a Morris or Dabo call.

In my opinion...Riley is off the hook...We have seen on film countless times that the QB is inefficient...it's the QB folks...

I agree, but didn't want to say that, I got a lot of grief when I said he wasn't any better than DJ5.

Given the QB stats, you may have something here...

There's a difference in simple and the defense knowing what's coming. Norv Turner kept it simple so the players didn't have to think and the offense clicked. Currently what I'm seeing in Clemson's offense is telegraphing and thinking way too much.
