Rewatched the Pitt game and

TP only made 1 bad throw. His last one and it was a terrible call trying to hit a home run , when we were in 4 down territory. A 7 or 8 yard button hook is all we needed and it would have been 4 th and short.
BTW - The only 2 times the QB kept the ball around the end on the zone read it was wide open . TP did it on his 2nd or 3 rd play and DJ finally did it on the last TD. They should be keeping it on that play until it’s stopped; 6 or 7 times a game minimum. What the hell is TE getting paid for? He’s got to be the worst OC in football right now. Honestly, I think TP , given the reps, gives us the best chance to win. We’ve got to try something different!!! He’s much more mobil and could make enough plays with his legs to keep the chains moving. lol

I don't know, but the pick 6 on the shovel pass made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. I could swear I heard Benny Hill music playing in my head.

Totally agree on the read option. Why run it if the QB never keeps it. When TP came into the game he should of had some pre determined plays where he just keeps it. Head scratching.

By TP's second series, the Pitt defense had made the adjustment to what was clearly TP's inability to complete a pass more complicated than the button hook.
Of COURSE I was hoping (along with all Tiger fans) that TP was the next coming of Tua Tavialoga (or however you spell the ex-Alabama QB's name when he took over for Jalen Hurt). But it isn't what it isn't.
That's why the coaches went back to DJ.
Quite frankly, the coaches had some big B_LLS to put DJ back out there after the shovel-pass pick-6.
Also, it took some guts by DJ to go back out there.
Remember in the Syracuse game when one of our receivers dropped a 50 yard wide-open pass. He was 'injured' and went into the tent to be examined. Convenient. Before long, he was back out ther.
DJ didn't hide in some tent or feign injury. He took it like a man and stayed out there in the view of everyone.

Maybe you forgot the underhand toss for 6,going the other way. And if he is trying for a home run, maybe Monte will look at him if he is still around come spring.

QB KEEPING IT ON RPO... Agree, it doesn't work if you don;t ever actually pull the ball. Trend this year.
TP7 pass on 3d and 7 was a really bad throw no matter what, he had more receivers and chose that pass... perhaps that is what the coaches are seeing in practice as well... he had two bad throws the second should have been an int as well. Not sure its necessarily a "bad throw" as much as a really quick throw before the receiver had a chance to turn, hit the defender in the hands. The pass to Ross in the end zone was just outside, from a technical standpoint the ball was uncatchable in bounds (don;t hold that against TP7) ball was out on time and only our guy was going to catch it.
Here are TP7's two drives, draw your own conclusions.
1st & 10 at CLEM 30?(11:19 - 3rd) Will Shipley run for 2 yds to the Clem 32?
2nd & 8 at CLEM 32?(10:49 - 3rd) Will Shipley run for 2 yds to the Clem 34?
3rd & 6 at CLEM 34?(10:04 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass complete to Justyn Ross for 14 yds to the Clem 48 for a 1ST down TP7 rolls left throws to JR8, hitch on the boundary. Good movement and good pass.?
1st & 10 at CLEM 48?(9:37 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh run for 17 yds to the Pitt 35 for a 1ST down RPO, TP7 pulls and runs left (good read). TP7 slow getting up. *** Pitt injury timeout? 1st & 10 at PITT 35?(9:18 - 3rd) Will Shipley run for 3 yds to the Pitt 32 2nd & 7 at PITT 32?(8:43 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass complete to Justyn Ross for 4 yds to the Pitt 28 TP7 pass left to JR8 on a 4 yard hitch. Good timing. Good pass. ? 3rd & 3 at PITT 28?(7:57 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass complete to Will Shipley for 5 yds to the Pitt 23 for a 1ST down. TP7 pass left to WS1 in the left flat (backfield) **** Pitt injury timeout (#5)? 1st & 10 at PITT 23?(7:41 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass incomplete to Justyn Ross TP7 pass to JR8 down the left sideline in the end zone, JR7 caught the ball just out of bounds. Straight go route, lots of contact down the sideline. TE 87 contact with Pitt DB at the 10 yd line, at the throw. 2nd & 10 at PITT 23?(7:37 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass incomplete to Beaux Collins TP7 RPO throws to BC80 left short out. Pass incomplete, easily could have been an int, hit the Pitt defender (21) in the hands (really quick throw). Unblocked Pitt defender off the left side (left defensive end) pressure on TP7. note:WS1 would have gotten at least 5 yards if TP7 handed off, Pitt LDE came straight up field. ? 3rd & 10 at PITT 23?(7:33 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh run for a loss of 2 yards to the Pitt 25 designed QB run off left side, zone blocking against 3 man front, right guard missed block Pitt 8 makes play in backfield. Play was not going to get 10 yards even if 8 is blocked.? 4th & 12 at PITT 25?(6:56 - 3rd) B.T. Potter 42 yd FG GOOD
———————————————
1st & 10 at CLEM 29?(1:00 - 3rd) Kobe Pace run for 3 yds to the Clem 32 Planned run up middle.? 2nd & 7 at CLEM 32?(0:34 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass incomplete to Beaux Collins Pass left to BC80 on slant, pass high and in front. Would have been a really good catch. Pitt corner blitz. CP20 picked up blitz.? 3rd & 7 at CLEM 32?(0:27 - 3rd) Taisun Phommachanh pass incomplete to Ajou Ajou Pass deep left side, should have been intercepted. Nowhere close to the receiver. No pressure. Allen open in right flat. Pace has the LB beat out of the backfield. *** note*** no Clemson receiver in the middle third of the field.? 4th & 7 at CLEM 32?(0:18 - 3rd) Will Spiers punt for 48 yds , Melquise Stovall returns for no gain to the Pitt 20

I appreciate this - finally someone puts this out here instead of saying TP7 can't pass without any further note.
IMO this solidifies my thoughts on TP7 that he's not as much of a step down as some folks want to say.
I was able to watch the first drive live but missed the 2nd drive and my thought was he did better improvising and running the "classic" Clemson O with the RPO vs DJ.
Not that I thought he outplayed DJ enough to start next week but I really liked what I saw from TP7 and would like to see him play a little more to see if the seasoning helps or if he is destined to see snaps in only mop up time.

I thought in just 2 series of real work he showed enough potential to get another shot or two. The rest of this season is about getting better for next year and giving guys a chance to show what they’ve got. We know what DJ can do after 7 games , and it’s not going to be good enough to win with consistently.

I can think of several poorly thrown balls or balls that should not have been thrown.
