$20M is a direct payment from the university to scholarship athletes. Based on the number of scholarships we provide and assuming an equal distribution, about $72.5K per athlete. NIL is still allowed over/above this direct payment. **based on my understanding so not gospel

NIL is not "allowed".

It is a legal right. It exists outside any salary paid by the schools.

This is not a salary. The players are not employees.

Ruined the game in a hurry. There will be no have-nots with a legit shot anymore. NCAA sports just became the minors every pro league. Amateur sports died a horrific death. Poor coots can’t lay their bills now. I like it.

Would you be talking amateur sports? That’s what it was. Free education and exposure for the next level.
Exploitation is BS. No one made them sign up and they knew what it was and has been for more years than I have been alive.

There will be no equal payments to all schollie players. Each school will determine how much to pay each player for his NIL. If it was going to be an equal payout of the 20 million, the NCAA could have made that a requirement.

NIL and revenue sharing are not the same thing. Your understanding is off. NIL are endorsement dollars not guaranteed to anyone. You have to have some Star power to warrant a strong NIL payment. Revenue sharing is just that, $20 million war marked to pay athletes salary. Bench warmer number two won’t get the same share as All American players.

Schools can divide the money as they see fit. They can use the money to buy a player's NIL rights. Which most will do for the top players. Not all athletes are going to get an equal share. Some will get peanuts. Some may sign a contract just for the scholarship. Call it whatever you wish, but it is going to be driven by NIL so as to avoid the employee/Employer tag which gets into anti trust lawsuits.

The schools can't buy NIL rights.

The relationship between athletes and NIL collectives is a private business deal that is immune from interference by schools or the NCAA. So says the federal injunction in the states of Tennessee and Virginia vs Ohio case.

Schools may be able to "offer" NIL but they can't force it on anyone or take it over.

Title IX is covered. However, not all athletes are going to be paid. This is still an NIL issue.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg2013_nascar_champ.gif2014_nascar_champ.gif flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It absolutely is not a NIL issue.

It's a salary issue.

NIL $$ are not salary and salary is not NIL money.

The number of people that don't understand that basic thing is astounding.

Female sports will get a share. Maybe. Pennies on the dollar. Everyone knows football pays the bill for all other sports.

Want to bet that the females get $10 of the $20m? Yes NIL will be based on other factors

This article covers the questions many are asking. Title IX is an unresolved issue. From the article, a way schools will attempt to circumvent Title IX is to pay the revenue share as an NIL contract. So likely there will be revenue share NIL deals with the schools and 3rd party NIL deals similar to today but the settlement is attempting to prevent the pay for play inducements that’s corrupting the sport.
