Rescued two puppies but cannot keep them

Dec 10, 2018, 6:49 PM

I rescued two puppies last week, but I can't keep them as we already have two rescue dogs and a rescue cat. I am posting this to see if anyone can help by possibly adopting them, knowing someone who is looking, knowing of any place I can take them, etc. I don't want to take them to a shelter, and I want them adopted together.

I first saw them on November 30 when I was heading up to Holly Hill, on the side of Hwy 176. I assume they were dumped on the side of the road. I tried to catch them twice that day, but had no luck. After I returned from the ACC Championship game on Sunday, I tried to find them again but they were gone. I went back twice on Tuesday with some food, and they were there, living in a storm sewer pipe. One ate out of my hand, but I couldn't catch either one. I went back on Thursday with some bacon cheeseburgers, and only one puppy was there. He came up to me and sat down, and allowed me to pick him up and put him in the car. I went back on Friday and Saturday, and was able to catch the female with the help of the male. After being apart for a couple of days, they were excited to be back together. After seeing them together, I can't separate them.

I have taken both of them to the vet for a wellness check and their first round of shots and dewormer. They have no chip. The male is 41 pounds and the female is 38 pounds, and they estimated the age at 6 months. The male looks like a lab/shepherd/chow mix, and the female looks almost identical but with a slight bulldog underbite. The vet techs even saw Sharpai in them. The male is dark brown and the female is yellow.

They are beautiful puppies, and are really sweet and loving. It's almost as if they are very appreciative of being rescued as they greet me with wagging tails and happy whimpers every time. I wish I could keep them. I can send pictures or more information if you T-mail me. I live in Summerville, SC, and will deliver the puppies if required.

I tried to summarize my efforts in catching them, there was a LOT more effort and detail than what I told here. It was an adventure but well worth it to save these guys.

I can’t take them but God bless you for that incredible diligence and concern for those puppies.

I help our neighbor with dog rescue. There should be a rescue group in your area that can help you. Be sure to use a reputable source, unfortunately plenty of puppies are still being brutally killed as bait dogs.

I would suggest a web search for dog rescue (insert biggest city near you). Sometimes works. Also call area shelters who sometimes have volunteers that have contacts. Go to adoptapet.com, search for dogs near your zip code. The listing show what group is posting and contact them.

Where are you ? I know people in WV and MD.

I had to google the term bait dogs.

I wish I hadn’t done that. Not sure what I expected, just sucks to know human scum like that exists.

For the people who drop them out, abuse them, and especially for the ones who fight them. My Rott is so jealous of me and my wife, that when another dog gets within 50 feet of us he goes nuts and get viscous toward them. A guy walking his Pit bull in front of my house on my land where I have a cyclone fence, and my Rott was going nuts. The guy ask me if I fight him, my answer was a nasty FK no, and I told him my dog didn't have to fight bc I would do his fighting for him. I told him that in case he ever got any stupid ideas!!! The very last thing I would ever want, is for my Baby Boy to get in a fight, he hates other dogs bad enough without him ever tasting their blood. He does the same thing when people who brushes against or walk to close to my truck when I take him with me. I ask my Vet about him doing that, and he told me that Rotts are one of the best personal protection dogs there are. He loves watching TV, but he growls at animals on the TV also.

Followup. Go to adoptapet.com

click on the gray link for shelters and rescues

put in a charleston zipe code

leave shelter / rescue name blank

leave 50 miles

select shelters with dogs

A rather long list of rescue groups in the area come up. I suggest checking out the website or Facebook before contacting. Try to use one that is foster based. Foster based rescue dogs will be in a volunteers home until adopted. Shelter based rescue put them in pens until adopted. Also, most foster based groups are all volunteers.

Good luck and well done !

That is a wonderful thing you have done, and I'm sure that Jesus smiles on people like you. My Rott that I have was a rescue that I had seen in the road several times. One night the car ahead of me almost hit him, and that is when I stopped and put him in my truck. The houses close to where I saved at, I went the next day and ask if he belong to them, but all 3 told me that they had never seen him before, but one of them wanted to take him if I wasn't going to keep him. I almost let him have him, but was glad I kept him bc when I took him to the vet, the vet told me that he believe that he was a full blooded American Rott. The vet said that he believe that the pup was lost bc the pup had great markings for his breed. I have had him for 11 years now, and he has been the best dog I've ever own in my life time, and he couldn't have gotten a better home if it had been planned bc I love him to death, and he is the most loyal best friend that I have ever had!!!

Best animal rescue and well worth your drive. For all the effort you put in to getting them this is where you should take them. Just contact them and explain . I’m sure they will help.

You're defiantly my kind of person. I have a soft heart and a weak spot when it comes to animals. Way different than dogs but, one of the best large animals I've ever owned was a Horse. Get them young I have learned was best if you're going to keep them. I have learned by the one that I owned, they are are very loving and very smart and easy to trained. They are loyal animals also, or at least mine was. I don't care where she was at, if she could hear me when I called her, she was coming to where I was at. She died about 25 years ago I guess, like talking about her in this post, it still makes my heart hurt and miss her :(... I named her Hopper bc when I started saddle training her, she would hop up with all 4 feet at once!!!:)
