Regression to Mean

I love Clemson football. Always have always will. That said, I also love data and statistics. From a quantitative perspective we have slipped the past three seasons. I’m fearful our football years return to our historical mean. This would suggest mostly seven and eight win seasons with trips to bowls like in Shreveport, Birmingham, Nashville, and such. That’s what the data suggests. I’m running a few regression models and will do a deeper dive into where the analytics send us.

Sounds like you know a lot about bowl trips to Shreveport, coot.

Clemson football has its ups and downs and South Carolina just had that one up for a couple years a decade ago, so I can why you’d post this bs

I don't think we are going to revert back that far. I do predict that if we want to continue to be in the top 6 programs on the nation, Dabo is going to have to humble himself and use the transfer portal. It's a huge disadvantage not to use it.

He might have to use the transfer portal but definitely needs to rethink the offense. We've gotten stale and predictable. Saban changed his offense. Dabo will have to as well.

A polynomial function is an expression which consists of a single independent variable, where the variable can occur in the equation more than one time with different degree of the exponent. The variable in the equation you presented is that you're a coot on a Clemson message board. Since you love data, I imagine you need a given answer to be provable. Proof you are a coot = your mention of Shreveport, Birmingham, and Nashville bowl games. Only a real coot would think of those first.

You think he’d be thrilled with 7-8 win seasons considering their 2 and 4 win seasons.

Actually I spend my days analyzing carcass data and reproduction efficiency metrics for a company that feeds/sells about 1M head of cattle/year and 800K head of hogs/year. Even though we don’t own any poultry, a chicken is fairly easy to pick out of a crowd.

So what the data say about South Carolina and Georgia ? My data says one is a women’s Basketball school and the other is Do Less with more U that did not score a touchdown with more 5 stars starting than any other team ever .

Your chickens are one of the worst. In fact I can’t think of any program anywhere with a fanbase as engaged as the gamecocks, who throw as much money and support behind the program as they do, who get a worse return on their investment. You guys are the freaking Cleveland Browns of college football. Pathetic troll attempt. -1 coot.

That type of regression model would only work with limited variables. That is assuming past inputs mimic future inputs and that the results from those inputs give the same predictive results. Very flawed assumptions. Way different staff, place in recruiting, landscape of college football, etc
Generally these models do well to tell you what happened but very poorly predict what will happen.
