Regarding Mac's
Feb 7, 2015, 12:45 PM
|
|
Haven't been to Mac's in years, but I loved it back in the day. They did have a pretty bad roach problem. Not sure if it's still that way. The black lady working there had a pretty rough looking mustache as well. If you can enjoy a burger with all of that going on, you know it was solid. Anyone have an update on Mac's? I know longer live in the state. Thanks for any insight offered.

Yeah those were the best. They were great! You can't get those original classic milkshakes like that too many places. Glad they are still making them great.

bringing Tommy B by and introducing him, Mac asked him if he could get anything for him an TB replied: "yes a salad." He said that he had to fix him one. I bet that he got that milk shake for you, too.

That was the good old days. I spent much time at Dan's; he was a real Clemson man.

Most folks on here would ask, "What was Dan's?" My answer, "it was great and he made a ton of money on football weekends just being Dan's."

My Dad and Mac worked together at Dans in the 50's.....Mac and Esther(the black lady with the gravel voice and the mustache) served the best Cheeseburgers around! I miss seeing Mac but seeing Pat is always a pleasure. Love those folks!

bubba1239, you are so right. There was nothing like Dan's when I was at Clemson (1962 grad). You could go in and eat and just walk out and when you got your "weekly allowance" from home, you went back in and told the lady at the cash register that you had a hamburger and drink two days ago and she would just ring it up without any questions. A "one of a kind place" back in the day!!! Loved it!!!

I had "dinner" at Dan's several times a week. Great times. I still miss those years.

Only there for 1 year but the hand breaded onion rings and hand patted hamburgers were the best.
It was right there in the corner at Sloan St and main and wasn't big enough to make any money so it closed fast, it was a one woman operation and she would give me a free burger if I'd take out the trash for her.
And not burger related but while we are missing places the loss of Chanello's still hurts

BGR too expensive and a tad over-rated.
A little bit better quality than Mac's or anything you will find downtown.
On a bit of a tangent, the oyster bar was my favorite Clemson restaurant when I was there in 2013. Assuming it's still there.

That the guy who has owned/operated it recently (I don't think his name is Mac, not entirely sure) is a complete @######?
Perhaps it was because I was a college-aged student, or just me in particular, but every time I ate there alone or with friends he was always so passive-agressive it felt like. Weird.

Yes..I do. He's a real ####. Said I would never go back in there. Terribly over rated IMO..I live in Six Mile and as far as Clemson..nothing has over whelmed me burger wise. BGR is over blown and over priced, way back is ok, but again pricey. For a sit down Sardis is good..on the run I usually just hit cook out

But I've tried all the places mentioned and Jakes Wayback Burger is my favorite by far. Not even close. Probably the worst possible food for you, but they're the best tasting.
