Well, who did in 21? Since it was suspended then. I agree with it. It's not like the team can go above the 85. Now, the bad thing is a shady coach could kick players off the team and replace with new ones.

Saban did that the first half of his time at Bama building his roster. He would “encourage” guys to take a medical redshirt and then sort of shuffle them out by the next season.

with College football, the more it will crumble.
While everyone goes more the way of Deon approach this last year, I think we're going to see players encouraged to leave each year by their coaches and we'll see 40 player classes become the norm. I also see all coaches/program chasing their tail trying to either fend off the tampering and lore of more NIL dollars (or, doing the actual tampering themselves).
It with this constant turnover/and change and greed that will destroy teams. With that said, I am eager to see how Dabo's approach to Transfer Portal and NIL plays out. Investing in kids first and getting kids who are dedicated to 3-5 years of hard work. I believe their will always be some of those kids, and I believe we will get way more than the average school the crazier things get.

There were no scholarship number limits until the early 1970s, and teams signed as many as they could afford. Johnny Majors was coaching Pitt then, and he brought in over a hundred scholarship freshmen one year. Tony Dorsett was one of those, and Majors won a NC in 1976 with that class.
All of the other coaches were in an uproar after Majors signed that class and forced the NCAA to pass the scholarship numbers rules.
I would say that Johnny Majors at Pitt has the record for the highest number of freshmen recruits.

Alabama, Oklahoma, and Nebraska were also know for massive signing classes when there was no ship limit. Somewhat in reference to the scholarship limit, which was set with a 4 year span in mind and the portal's affect on previous weight that number(85); it seems the 85 ship limit could be circumvented to a degree by this method or some facsimile: (NIL$ + Walk-on status = Scholarship available)

Immaterial may be the wrong word her but agree with in that, but all this is gonna do is create more transfer portal players with nowhere to go. I may be in the minority here but if the trend keeps going, Dabo' s might just be the way. Stay the course.

It might be Clemson. Dabo prefers HS Kids to portal players. If we lose 10 to the portal next year that is 10 more HS kids he can.
This is actually a common sense ruling by the NCAA. Schools were limited in how large a signing class was while there were no limits on how many transfers a school could take as long as they stayed under 85 scholarships. This leveled the playing field for schools who prefer HS kids.
