Anyone else think this whole Real ID thing is a scam? Unless they start requiring it to get into Memorial Stadium or to access #$@&hub.com, it’s a big no for me.

Also, it's just for air travel. Your ID/drivers license will work for everything else.

Real ID is your State ID/DL. If you get a new DL, it's a Real ID. That's all this is - a renewed driver's license.

I can see that and agree. I went to the website and it says you can still fly, vote, enter federal buildings (including the post office), etc. If you work in a federal building you need one. If you work at a nuclear facility you need one. If you work at either of those, I would assume you have ID's out the wazoo anyway.
Then why the deadline? Why the big push to get one? Why didn't they just come out and say "bring the information you need when you get your DL renewed?" Maybe they did and I missed it.

No. You can get a DL without Real ID. The Real ID requires Birth Certificate and proof of citizenship. I don't have a Real ID and just renewed my license. I have a passport so I don't need Real ID.

Don't forget a utility bill, and women have to bring their marriage license if they changed their name. Also, if you need a replacement copy of your social security card, you have to have your parents' SS numbers, not just your own.

It's really not a scam. Because the left has allowed many illegals to get drivers licenses without proving they were American citizens. Now (because of this) (at least for now) you have to show a drivers license with a start in the upper right hand corner.
Since 2005 congress has put the US citizenship requirement to all driver licenses.
I know all this because in 2005 I moved from Lexington Kentucky to Woodstock Ga and got this new divers license then.
Everyone calls it a REAL ID. Maybe it is, but that sounds hokey.

Your citizenship is tied to your Social Security number, not your driver's license, which you have to provide on a voter registration application. This is handled by the Social Security Administration.

Except that’s wrong. The reason for real IDs came out of the 9/11 commission to better secure air travel under the Bush administration in 2005.
But if we ignore something for 20 years a podcast can make up a new narrative out of thin air and call it a fact to incite anger and drive up listenership to sell ads.

Air filters for HVAC have been around for longer than 20 years and everyone agrees they’re a scam, so I don’t see how when the law was passed is relevant.
It just all seems rushed to me and they should give us a little more time to become compliant.

The "when" is relevant exactly because of your last statement on it being rushed. It wasn't rushed, its been talked about and pushed back for years. Just because you forgot or never paid attention doesn't mean it was rushed or a scam. Please explain the scam you think they are pulling.

If you don’t agree about air filters, can we at least agree on dental floss? I’ve literally never used it and I get compliments on my teeth all the time. 100% scam by the big dental lobby.
If Real ID was so important it wouldn’t have been delayed ten times already. The scam is that it isn't necessary but whoever is in charge is afraid to admit it so we all have to continue being inconvenienced by this charade.
Next time you get summoned to federal jury duty and can’t use not having a Real ID as an excuse, I’ll be here saying I told you so.

I have a real ID and got it years ago when I moved and needed to get a new license anyway. It was dead simple. And I wish I'd get called for jury duty, I've been waiting on it for 30yrs
I guess I just don't see what the big deal is, we've all known this coming for years and has been all over the news for a while. You bring a couple of easily available pieces of info when renewing your license.

Exactly.I got the little (Real ID)gold star on my license when I had to renew it on my birthday in 2019. There have been multiple extensions since then. Time is Up. People need to stop whining and get off their ### and go to the DMV. They've had plenty of time.
