Ran into Danny Ford today

TTI has a big tent tool sale every spring and as I was walking through the rows of tools, looked up and there stood Coach. I said “Hi, Coach” and we stopped and talked for a minute. He was on his way out and proud of himself for getting out with only spending $16. He said he is doing well and he looked like he was getting around pretty good, maybe better than the last time I saw him a couple of years ago. He was by himself and I swear I don’t think anyone else there even recognized him.
Brought back a lot of great memories for me for sure.

Good to know. Had a chance to meet him at a wild game dinner 15 yrs ago and he was as nice of a guy as you could ever meet. Glad he is still getting around good. Thanks for posting.

I spent $62. Got a multi-tool and a couple of packs of attachments for it and a set of driver bits. There was not nearly as much stuff at the sale this year as last year.

I tend to avoid tool sales - they seem to lead to some sort of work!

I have family in Pendleton that use to have a very big BBQ party for either Memorial Day or Labor Day. My wife and I were living in Pendleton during 2007 so we were able to go that year. I didn't realize how big the crowd was for this, it was a big event for the area. Lots of people from the area came out. Some stayed the whole time, while others just dropped in. Cars were parked everywhere. We decided to go after a few hours. Right when I started to back up, I saw a man step behind my car. I slammed on brakes and he jumped back. That's when I saw who he was. I had almost ran into Coach Ford. He was very nice about the whole thing. The whole way home my wife joked that if I had hit him I would never be allowed to go to a Clemson football game again.

This year was a little disappointing. Not as much stuff. Last year I was like a kid in a candy store.

I live about 2 miles from him in Pendleton and see him around all the time, he’s always driving around his beat up flat bed ford truck. He bought a case of Busch light in front of me at the store last week 🤣

Yea. No pretenses with him. Just a regular guy. That’s why I don’t think anyone else even recognized him at the tool sale.

He should never have to buy his own beer in Clemson after winning a National Championship. Of course, who could afford to buy that much beer, even Busch Light.

I was a student at Clemson during that 1st national title.
He was a good one.

Yea. I mentioned I graduated in 84 and was a sophomore in 81 and he smiled real big and said “so you were right there!”

If I saw him I due to my introvert nature would not speak. Maybe there are others, like ‘don’t bother him’. They should have a Danny Ford appreciation day.

where he graciously returns every few years. Danny is sincere, cuts to the chase, tells it like it is, and enjoys his visits. Always well received.

I see Danny every now and then around Pendleton and we talk old football days at Bama & Clemson. He seems to be happy with his life and like the rest of us, aging and moving a bit slower. Just a wonderful friend and a very nice man!
