Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 4:38 PM

What's it gonna take for the national media and opposing fans to respect the acc more. Another Clemson natty or the acc having a strong showing in the bowl games. Wanna say both but that still want appease the masses.

2 more teams at least in top 25, if not top 15

Nov 20, 2019, 4:40 PM

we need a challenge during the year for Conference supremacy or we will get poo poo'd

Most def need more top 25 teams. Hopefully those fringe top 25 acc teams; wake, uva,.and tech have a strong showing in there respective bowls.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wake, UVA, VT and Pitt are all top 26-30 teams

Nov 20, 2019, 5:28 PM

So with a couple wins they crack the top 25. Winner of VT-UVA should be in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Should louisville be added to this list?

Nov 20, 2019, 5:51 PM

They seem to be showing significant improvement and if I recall correctly have 7 wins!?!?

Go Tigers!!!

This is part of the hate and SEC bias. There are 4 ACC teams that are 7-3 and only one top 25 team. If they were in the SEC there would be multiple teams in the top 25.

That's b/c those teams were not "highly thought of pre-season"! Every year you will see an SEC team that is unranked; win it's 1st couple games then all of a sudden - they jump into the top 25. Ridiculous.

Conference strength is largely based around non conference

Nov 20, 2019, 7:12 PM [ in reply to Re: 2 more teams at least in top 25, if not top 15 ]

results and the ACC did not fare well in that regard. Any league is going to have 7-3 teams at this point in the year because they have now beaten enough other teams within their own conference. That doesn't really mean anything though. ACC teams beating other ACC teams doesn't prove any of them are any good.

The ACC needs Miami to beat Florida. It needs UNC to beat App St. It needs FSU to beat Boise at home and not nearly lose to La Monroe. It needs NC State and Syracuse to not get obliterated by bad West Virginia and Maryland teams. It needs UVA and VT not to stink against the Old Dominions of the world. It needs GT to handle the Citadel.

THATS the kind of stuff the ACC needs to do to improve its reputation.

Re: Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 4:45 PM

Clemson isn't the problem right now so us winning another NC isn't going to do anything to change the reputation of the rest of the conference. Since the start of last year the other 15 ACC teams are a combined 4-19 against other P5 teams, and if you count the games against ND they're 4-27. Half of those wins btw have come against South Carolina. I'm not sure how people keep missing that fact when claiming that the media has unfairly labeled the ACC as being bad.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 4:47 PM

I meant to type 5-19 against P5 teams, and 5-27 including the ND games.

Re: Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 5:36 PM

It's what I said on an earlier post, but it's close to the same thing. What was said in another post was that the ACC had a better winning record than the SEC. I said that if you took the losing ACC teams and played the losing SEC teams, the SEC would come out on top of those match ups, and if you done the same with the winning teams of both, the SEC would most likely win those also with the exception of Clemson, over all the ACC is absolutely awful!!!

Most of the ACC has 1 single out of conference loss and it's to Notre Dame except for Miami who lost a close game to Florida. FSU lost their first game to Boise state and look at their season as a whole. Most teams have beat each other up within conference.

I wrote this down last night before I went to bed, it's pretty accurate. The one thing that our conference cant do is have multiple years without a few teams in that 10-25 realm. We could become the 19 Big XII or the 18 Pac12

Another team in the top 15

Nov 20, 2019, 5:01 PM

The gap gets blown out of proportion. But, I get your question 100%. In fact, right now there are more bad SEC teams ( by record ) than there are ACC teams for example.
But, another team being consistently ranked. FSU or Miami have the most potential for this. I happen to think Pitt has a huge upside! I can see it now; if they ever turn it around the story will be - old school traditional power with 9 National Titles is winning again!
I like Narduzi but they may need someone else to take them to the next level!

And, Clemson needs to continue dominating!

Re: Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 5:19 PM

Actually the teams do not have to get better at all. We just need for the media t believe they are better and rank four of five in the top ten and another four or five in the top twenty-five. Then as the season goes along the media can claim that the teams are beating other top 25 (or top 10 teams), so by the end of the year we can have two and three loss teams in the top 15 or so and we can claim we are the best conference based our hard schedule. And if we happen to lose the natty, we can claim it was because of our hard schedule!

It amazes me how some people keep missing this!
It's a self-fulfilled prophecy that other conferences teams are good.
All FBS teams will likely open with an easy game OOC. Then get into conference play or 1 tough OOC game. Then start the meat of conference play.
So win your layup game. Handle your P5 team(carefully chosen) and bam - go to conference play. If everyone beats everyone else it should be similar to a popular conference who gets this treatment.
But, hey, ACC teams don't bring the crowds!

Some excellent Observations

Nov 20, 2019, 7:35 PM

There have been some great points made. I wish I could put it all on some of that. The system is broken; because in reality only a hand full of teams will ever really get a "real shot" at the National Championship!
Which means Big 10 and SEC teams have a leg up from the word GO!
Even with Wake Forrest schedule(which wasn't all that tough) a Big 10 school would not have had to wait as long to have gotten recognized and ranked. This is a real - substantial thing! Look at the influence it has on so many on here.
You see some people go down the top 25 and go which conference has the most ranked team. Then elementary like conclude that conference has to be the best. Not so fast.
Especially early rankings can be heavily influenced by other things outside of the team on the field.

Before I end - no doubt - the ACC schools who use to be powerhouse programs need to step it back up! But, I seem to recall when Miami was winning National Championships and highly touted - "none of this SEC BS"!
In short - things go in cycles!

Perhaps the rest of the ACC will get tired of Clemson taking home the trophy and "tighten up"! Then again - the way Alabama has dominated the SEC - it hasn't worked for that conference. (Scoffs) - odd that conference isn't looked at as bad since no one can contend with them.

Again, give me the link, or tell me the games(the match ups) of the games were the ACC lost all these P5 games!

For starters, a strong showing by the conference overall, then head to head with The Power 5
match-up in the regular season would help. Match- up's in the Bowl Games certainly help, but if they are not the New Year Day Bowl Games it really doesn't matter much.

Two Things

Nov 20, 2019, 7:06 PM

1) One, Ideally Two other ACC teams to go the season with 2 or fewer losses. The media could care less if the rest of the conference has losing records, your conference is perceived as weak if they're are not 2-3 "top" teams.

2) Every ACC team needs to schedule a comparable power 5 out of conference team during the season outside of ND. They need to be comparable - Duke playing Alabama does no good. Duke should have scheduled Miss State or Miss. If the other conferences won't participate alert the media.

Honestly, we need to stop with the Woffords and Charlottes. One maybe, two?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Quieting the ACC haters?

Nov 20, 2019, 7:22 PM

1) We need a bigger commitment to football across the conference.
2) Non-Clemson teams need to win their OOC games.
3) We need 4+ teams to win 8 or more regular season games.
4) Qualify 10+ teams for bowl games
5) Win 60% of our bowl games
6) Rinse and repeat

That will put 4-5 ACC teams in the Top 25 each week.
