Question about Streaming at Tailgates
Nov 16, 2022, 10:21 AM
|
|
Just wondering how many people are streaming on TVs at tailgates these days. I've been using my satellite dish for years, but I no longer have service with DirecTV. Was hoping to connect to my truck's WiFi and stream this weekend on my tailgate TV, but I've had problems in previous years due to cell service on game day being bad. Has it gotten any better?

in Brooks Center lot. Used a power inverter to power the smart tv and casted my phone (Hulu) to watch games. Worked great!

Used a satellite for years...

until three weeks or so ago when we started streaming with a Verizon 5G internet gateway cube and connecting to our YouTube account. While there are still some buffering issues that occur, that has been minimal and, overall, has worked pretty well. At $25 per month, it's also less expensive compared to the $100+ we were paying for Dish.

Good to know. I believe my Silverado's hotspot is through AT&T, so hoping that will work well.

all about those towers

i have Tmobile and it is hit or miss on the buffering. There is always some but some games are worse than others. All depends on how many people are hitting the same tower at the same time and your line of sight to the tower. and your device. Some devices work better than others.
give yours a try. The south Carolina game should be a good indicator. It should be as crowded as any.
I use a HDMI cable and skip the hotspot/wifi. PLug my phone directly into the tv

From my experience, Verizon is similar or slightly worse than AT&T on gamedays for streaming. Similar issues as you describe once everyone arrives at tailgate.

TMobile Home Internet hotspot has worked flawlessly for us in Lot 2. Be sure to NOT let anyone but your TV to use it. We cable the TV to it via a Cat5 ethernet cable. And nobody gets to use its WiFi.
