Question about Jake Heidbreder

1

Dec 15, 2024, 12:03 PM

I’ve only been able to watch about half the games, so this is not intended as a slight or a statement of fact, but what will his value be going forward? From what I’ve seen (again, I’ve not seen the full body of work), he appears to have trouble creating his own shot, and I haven’t seen consistency when attempting meaningful shots against better competition. I can’t tell if his defense is a plus, but it doesn’t seem to be a clearing weakness

Will he end up as a 3 point specialist and be able to give us instant offense, or will he be someone we can put in to rest the starters?

THat's funny, because I too have seen a little over half of the Tiger games, but have yet to see Heidbreder sink a 3 point shot. Maybe he has made a bunch, and the commentators yesterday mentioned his percentage, but I just have not seen them. I'm not down on him at all, but am also curios what he brings to the table.

All I'll say is he is not as good as Hemenway when he was healthy. Looks like he really lacks confidence. Don't know if it was the injury he had and still thinking of that, or sitting out last season. Maybe hitting a couple of 3s in a meaningful game will get him going. Cade Tyson was really struggling as a transfer for the Tar Holes and had a real good game vs La Sale yesterday so maybe Jake will get going also. Have my doubts until I see it in a meaningful game.

This is a silly proposition.

Shooting isn't something that develops in a vacuum. Shooters (pure and streaky) need to play and get into a rhythm. That can't happen if they're being sent in for 4-5" stints. But at this point in the season, you can't put a guy like Heibreder in and let him shoot until he finds that rhythm. It's a Catch 22 situation. So, either he gym-rats it and develops in isolation and team practice and that propels him into the lineup, or he bench sits.
