Question: Has Deon Cain shown enough to leave for NFL
Nov 14, 2017, 12:17 PM

|
after this year? Coming in to the season, I thought he'd be a lock to go. I'm not sure if it is him, or perhaps our offense which is drastically more focused on a power run game, but he hasn't seemed to separate himself as a top draft pick. He's had some drops this year which may have been redeemed last year, but with less targets they seem to stand out more this year. This is not meant as a knock on him at all. I'm glad he is a Tiger!
So what do y'all think?

In a word...no. Not consistent with a low motor does not equal nfl caliber
He has all the talent in the world but he is going to need to show a lot over the remainder of the season to leave early

In my opinion he would definitely benefit from another year to develop his skill set. Everyone knows he excels at getting behind defenders because he’s an exceptional athlete, but he’s still raw as a receiver. He struggles with coming back to the ball and high pointing it, something Mike Williams, Nuk, and Sammy all excelled at. He has too many mental lapses where he loses focus and drops would be touch down passes. I hope he doesn’t jump for the quick money and stays another year to get better and really set himself up for a solid career in the NFL (for life changing money).

Can't remember which game but mentioning laying out for the ball reminded me of a play that MW laid out for AND caught, His Only thought was "gotta catch the ball"!
DC has looked a little lost on a few balls that were very catchable, like he was a little surprised that the ball was there!
I think that at least a little part of it is that he believed in DW4 and expected every ball thrown to him would be catchable and as a result made DW4 look even better by making catches that were not easy to catch. ON the flip side , KB has struggled at times with his accuracy, especially to DC. MHO
If KB plays much Sat , Hopefully if will be to work on the deep ball with DC, Hopefully keeping KB running to a minimum

I agree with others, he has not shown enough. However, the real questions are: Does Deon think he has shown enough? And what is he hearing from those around him? We have all seen people make questionable decisions to leave Clemson early, either through the draft or to go to another team. Would it help Deon to develop and stay with Clemson another year? Absolutely...barring injury. Will he stay? I don't think so...I think he will see $$$ and believe that he is the best WR (or almost best) in the country AND that the NFL will see that....despite what Dabo and the rest of the coaching staff may tell him.

IDK.

My guess is that Deon is much more disappointed in himself and his circumstance than I am.
If you're asking is he going in the first or second round I'd think, no. He has done plenty but a QB struggling in back shoulder passes, long deep balls which meet the WR's in full stride, dropped balls here and there with so many of his team mates being targets doesn't help his cause.
I won't speculate on whether or not we will need him next year or whether a senior season would help his draft stock.

Yeah, he can play outside or inside.

He has the speed to do so. I wouldn't envision him getting many jump ball targets in the red zone, but there's no reason he is strictly a slot receiver.

Heck, he had one this past weekend, but dropped the ball.
However, if he cannot get the drops figured out then you would be correct in him being a slot only guy in the NFL. That being said, not many slot receivers are 6'1".

Has been inconsistent his time at Clemson...like Martavis Bryant was. And he will probably leave a year early like Martavis did instead of waiting to be a first rounder.

MB had a few drops with limited opportunities his first two seasons...
Nov 14, 2017, 4:30 PM

And had a good junior year. MB got drafted later because of Hopkins, Watkins, and Brown being ahead of him. Not a good comparison since Cain got a whole lot more playing time his first two years

If I know one thing after watching the past years drafts and including watching how long Deshaun sat before being selected, your college resume matters absolutely none. They'll be looking at the intangibles and other things like size speed hip movement in drills and things of that nature, not how many yards you have.. Although they'll definitely notice the number of dropped balls but if he can prove that's fixed in the combine he's fine.

Unless he steps up and leads this team into the playoffs showing full beast mode from here on out, he needs more time to prove he can be reliable and consistent, which he has NOT done this year.

He's in his third year as a WR. His route running needs a lot of work, plus he doesn't adjust well to the ball, on a consistent basis. There will be a number of WR's in the draft this year who will get much more attention than he will.
Any talk of Ray Ray going in the next draft is folly on his part. He's yet another who needs to work.
Neither Cain nor McCloud are Charone Peak-talent...and look where Charone is. Injuries haven't helped, but...seriously guys, think smart.
