As a structural engineer, the building code requires us to design our buildings to resist 90 mph 3-second wind gusts. The maximum wind speeds I have seen predicted for the upcoming storm are 40 mph or less. Granted, I primarily engineer and design commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. However, I have been consulted for apartments. I rarely provide services for residential. However, I do know the residential code requires the same design criteria.

Otherwise, we can't do anything for trees and/or the soil in which they are rooted. Hopefully, your trees will just sway and not snap. This website gives a good scale for the wind effect on trees - https://treeservicesomaha.com/what-wind-speed-is-dangerous-for-trees/

Likewise, I don't design timber utility poles. However, I have had to design foundations for metal light poles. The poles are designed for the same wind speed mentioned above.

All this to say, we will have some strong winds. So, be vigilant.

Well WYFF Georgia Soccer is reporting we will wind gusts between 60-70 in the Clemson/Anderson area Friday morning with possible sustained winds of 45-50 mph ... now granted weatherman/woman is the only job where you can be wrong MOST of the time and still have a job. Ok other than some government jobs.

Why does WYFF storm central remind me so much of the WKRP tornado episode?

Weather Channel has the highest SUSTAINED winds at 36 mph over the next 48 hours.

I have always thought that TWC was conservative in their predictions - meaning it usually isn't as bad as they predict.

Accuweather predicts GUSTS up to 54 mph - https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/clemson/29631/weather-tomorrow/335501

Here is a tool that I use: plug in your zip code, select the class of hazard you want to meet (wind, for example) and you get what the design parameters should be with respect to say, wind.

https://windload.solutions/asce-7-wind-load-velocity-finder-wind-speed-by-zip-code/

You're welcome.

I use the ASCE 7 Hazard Tool all the time for wind/seismic/ice design calculations.

I use this one for day-to-day information,
