Here's how I think it's going down.
It's starts with the Big 12 Not Notre Dame. ND is waiting for opportunity. ND is a bit arrogant and lofty still in 2022. So they'll wait. The Big 12 has already got BYU, Cincy, Houston and UCF in the pipeline. It's a fact that the BIG 12 isn't standing pat, as they are interested in Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State, and sources also say Oregon and Washington want in also. Brett Yorkman commissioner of the Big 12 is pushing expansion NOW. He is being proactive unlike ACC Commish Phillips. I see the PAC being raided of 4 or 6 of the above programs within a year....maybe sooner. That gives the BIG 12 a leg to stand on concerning value of their conference ...at least out west and south west. And I don't put it past Yorkman to attempt a run at NC and Duke as they have value across the spectrum of college sports. Or possibly other ACC teams. So the PAC will be essentially disintegrated. Big 12 survives. Pressure now more so on ND and the ACC.... As this PAC ACC thing proves the moronic desperate reactionary idea that it was. As the ACC continues to sit on it's hands, I think the Big 10 make ND an offer (money, guarantees, special considerations) they won't refuse (GOR will be litigated into oblivion). .... then Clemson, Miami, FSU and one other makes it known they want out officially similar to the PAC schools months earlier ..... Plans are being considered currently behind the scenes right now with boards and AD's etc...but I think it's gonna take one more round of PAC abandonment to push the ACC schools into action. They've always been the last one on the bus.

Yea that's a possiblity also. They would definitely want Stanford I would assume. (West coast Duke) It'll be interesting to see how it all really plays out.

You dont grab 2 left coast teams and leave it at that, so I agree, additional western teams will be added to the fold in short order.

Some lower desired programs will be added as "fillers" throughout the conferences (Louisville, Wake, Syracuse, etc..) It will be 3 mega conferences yet the BIG 10 and SEC would be the big 2 controllers.

I'm no so sure about this. From a purely financial perspective, there is no reason to add more sub-average teams than necessary because they dilute the payout to the other schools. Only reasons to add sub-average revenue tier teams are:
- Credibility of play off. For example: Can't leave out OkieSt. They will end up in the B12. - TV Market footprint. I could see UVA being added to SEC for this reason.
It will not be based on needing teams to beat up on. OOC scheduling will take care of that. It will not be based on Basketball. I think the financial advantage brought by football money will likely help teams in the mega conferences with basketball and basketball revenue is small compared to football.
If I were a team like Duke, I would be very, very worried.
But again, I don't really know anything and maybe I am under valuing certain factors.

I'll play.
I expect the following announcements will be made between now and next March 1. (I will be surprised if they don't.)
1. ND will join the B1G. 2. Clemson and FSU will join the SEC.
I expect more announcements to be made, but no matter what they are I will not be surprised.
Examples: Oregon and Washington to B1G. Oregon and Washington to Big 12. Oregon and Washington staying in PAC-whatever. UNC to B1G. UNC to SEC. UNC staying in ACC. Etc., etc.
No other announcements made, or not made, will surprise me.

I don't really know anything except that money will drive every decision. I think the the game for SEC and B1G is not to add as many teams as possible, but to add just enough of the major players across every region to make sure no team outside the mega conferences has a legitimate claim to be in the playoff. The fewer teams they add, the less diluted the proceeds are for the the schools in the mega conference. Trust me.. if you think ESPN's SEC bias is bad now, just wait to see what they do along with Fox once there are two mega conferences.
The only way the ACC survives is if the following happens.
1. Get ND in the fold 2. Kick out Wake, Duke and maybe one or two of GT, SU, BC so as to minimize dilution of payouts. 3. Add legit top 50 Big12 schools: OkieSt, Cinci, Baylor, ISU, BYU to expand footprint 4. Hold on to all other schools currently in the conference.
I don't see the ACC holding together. They had their shot to bring in ND and failed. ND is going to the B1G where there traditional rivals play. As soon as that is announced, Clemson & FSU will move to the SEC, maybe others like UNC, VaTech, UVA, etc.. as well. Don't be surprised if the SEC ejects Vandy.

I agree on ND. There really is no reason for them to join the ACC at this point. We have to find a way to get past this GOR trap.

But it won't. It will limp on. Becoming a worse and worse product. They may add a couple of teams, but noone that will bring an ounce of credibility to the league. Maybe West Virginia, they will bring some, but I hear they want the SEC. I'm think the ACC will add Georgia State and Florida Atlantic and hail it as this splendid move. But outside the ACC the other conferences will be laughing at us. Clemson, Florida State, Miami and North Carolina all remain in the dying ACC, unable to do anything about it as the ACC becomes a lower tier conference.

The big ten has said through back channeling the only further expansion they will do is if ND would join.
