Portal veiw by me...

So, EVERYBODY is saying that the reason our program has gone down (if it has) is because Dabo refuses to use the portal. I don't want to hear from those who say he should have used NIL before this season, because until this season, it was against the rules!
So, what does the portal do for a team? It supposedly raises your talent level, right? Well, let's look at that... According to 247 Sports, Clemson has the fifth highest level of talent already! Only Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St and Texas A&M have more talent! The only way for us to increase our talent level through the portal is by only signing 5 star players in the portal! Almost no teams are able to get 5 star players in the portal!
Miami (12th), FSU (20th) and Coots (22nd) all use the portal with numbers in the 20s coming and going every year. So, even while FSU won the ACC last year, the portal has not upgraded their talent very well...why?
The reason has to do with the reason Dabo does not want to use the portal! If you bring in a 4 star player to play one/two years over a freshman 4 or 5 star player, there is a good chance that freshman or sophomore will transfer out! Clemson has had fewer transfers out than almost all of the top 25 teams...thus the less need to bring in good players from the portal. Remember, when we were short on DE's this past year, Dabo had two DE's on his want list in the portal? They both chose elsewhere, so Dabo moved Woods to DE.
Each team that started using the portal, IMMEDIATELY had an increase in transfers out. This is not an assumption, it is fact.
So, Dabo can continue to have top talent without using the portal (I will take 5th place talent in any year, gladly, as it is better than what we had when we won the last two championships). What Dabo does need to do is find out why we have so much talent, but can't do better on the field...that looks like coaching to me! I thought our play calling was not good Saturday. I don't know if we can blame the defense, since they spent so much time on the field...but there need to be some scheme differences there also. If the "old" WRs can't cut it, bring in the young studs! Then the defense will not key on the "old" receivers as much, which may make them perform better!
As to Klubnick, I can't help but think back to 2014 when Chad Morris was here and Stoudt was our QB...We complained that Stoudt was not up to par with what we needed...then Morris left after the season...Jeff Scott and Tony Elliott took Stoudt and designed the offense for his strengths, and Stoudt had his best game ever in the bowl, beating Oklahoma 40-6! That is the change this team needs!

You’re going to have to Explain what you mean by that. NIL has been NIL since July 2021.

No, effective this year, the schools and coaches can be involved in the NIL, prior to this year, the coaches were forbidden to know what was happening...it all had to be third party, not controlled or informed by the coaches. We know that many schools violated this, and it was impossible to control, so they had to change the rules. It still cannot pay an athlete until after they sign with the school.
But, I do not know anything about any of it, just what I have heard!

Lol just seriously Lol.
Your take is looking at only star ratings.
You yourself just said the only way we can get better is by signing 5 stars out of the portal.
You are so wrong it’s not even funny.
Theirs this thing called development. Some kids develop faster and some develop slower.
Do you realize how many kids have started out at schools like Wofford/Furman/Rice or even schools like Vandy and it took them 1/2/3 years to physically mentally or both develop?
Georgia took a kid from Vanderbilt. Georgia has had the #1 ranked recruiting class for like 5 straight years yet they needed a little 2/3 star recruit that had very few offers and most likely none from the big boys and took him and used him to beat us?
Not only is he able to get on the field and play for GEORGIA… he actually excelled and became a part of the reason why they won.
That’s what yall non portal people don’t understand. It’s not just about the former 4/5 star recruits in the portal. It’s about taking a kid from somewhere like Troy that took a little longer to develop but he did and then bringing him into our roster to compete for snaps.
If he beats out the younger guys or even older guys and the transfer… guess what? The portal will be there next year and the year after and the year after for you to replace the portal player you brought in.
Now some of you will say yes and that’s what leads to needing to depend on the portal every year. Well… DUH… every other school in America is taking portal guys every year. That’s the way it works now.
Also theirs no rule that says if you bring in a portal guy and he performs and you lose a guy or 2 at that position… that you can’t go and recruit an even better player at the same position. If you recruit and sign that player and he turns out to be the main contributor then guess what? You don’t need the portal for that position the next year.
Some of y’all are literally grasping at straws to make arguments for why Dabo isn’t the problem and it’s flat out unbelievable.

You said: "You yourself just said the only way we can get better is by signing 5 stars out of the portal."... Yes, that is correct...we are already the 5th best team in talent. The only way we could move higher in those ranking is to sign only 5 star players...that is common sense! That does not apply to other schools that are not already loaded, like Clemson.
I am not the one putting out the ranking, it is 247 Sports, as I said. They treated all of the schools without bias by looking at what the players were ranked coming out of high school. Yes, players can do better than their stars say, or worse! We have 3 three star starting sophomores in our secondary, right? Do you want to sign a 4 star player and cause them to transfer?
As I said, schools like the Dawgs lose a lot a players every year because they use the portal. Thus, they HAVE to bring in players to replace those 5 stars that left. If they did not use the portal, maybe those 5 stars would not have left? And they would not have needed the WR from Vandy.
At this point, I will copy the post that I made on August 12th on this forum, what do you think these players would do if we signed a portal guy to play their position for one year?:
Since some of you think that our recruiting has fallen off, please review some of the 3 star players we got in the 2023 class:
Avieon Terrell Khalil Barnes Shelton Lewis Tyler Brown
All may be starters this year as second year players! When this class is looked at 2 years from now, I think we will be glad we got them!
This is mainly for those who think the number of stars is all that counts in recruiting....

You’ve completely missed the point. The portal gives the chance to add PROVEN players that have experience at the collegiate level. Recruiting 4/5-star kids is taking a risk because we haven’t seen them play. Portal gives a chance to fix mistakes or busts on the roster. There’s a reason EVERY OTHER TEAM uses it

You missed the point...as I said, we had a need to get more DEs this past cycle, due to unexpected losses. Dabo wanted two that were in the portal, but did not get them. SEE? He does try to fill a NEED!
And, as I said to an earlier post in this thread:

For minimal player development especially on Offense and at skill positions.

Take a step back and look at how the truly elite programs use the portal. That is all most of us want. If it didn’t make them better they would be right where Dabo is.
