Is customer service dead?

Just stopped at McDonalds. I don’t usually eat that stuff but I’m traveling and wanted something quick. Are employees taught anything about customer service? Even the minimum? I’m noticing a trend across lots of businesses. Good grief managers teach your employees!

But some other places are horrible with it. Sometimes I get no "my pleasure" at CFA anymore.

CFA in general are far better than any other fast food chain. But the Anderson stores are absolutely a step above all the others. It comes down to what management expects , teaches and demands.

Not at fast-food in the South generally speaking. In California and out West it is still solid and always has been. The Mexicans do a great job. Everything is fresher too.

when installing it. I was about to ask the install guys to help out fixing it…since, ya know, they fugged it up. They bolted, acted like they were gonna help and then ran to the truck and took off. A-holes.

Popeyes must have got the memo

I get "honey'd" and "sweetie'd" to death when I go there. It's nice. I like that.
Chickfila and Popeyes only two that stand out.
Wendy's is hit and miss, mostly positive. Hardees and Bojangles is usually borderline crappy. I wouldn't go to those but have annoying cravings for the biscuits.
I don't really go to many other FF places.

Some cities are just worse too. McDs in MT Pleasant does a better job than McDs in Dillon.

McDonalds is the worst. I stopped in Pickens (mainly to pee, but I was hungry)

I ordered a Big Mac and a coke. I told her "no ice, please". She said it automatically comes with ice. I told her again I didn't want ice.
She walked over to the fountain machine in the back (no longer any out front) and grabbed the cup, full of coke and ice and threw in on the floor under the fries station. What a mess.
Sad times for Ronald.

I don't blame the girl, I'd be puzzled and quite angry also. I might kick you off the property on top of that. ">

The smiling, shaking hands, how do you do? type stuff of normal interactions.
It's like everyone is all of a sudden on the autistic spectrum.
And the whole idea of "looking busy" is no longer a thing.

Didn't McD's replace workers with those screens? I've only been a couple times

in the past few years, but it was walk in, pee, wash hands, order from a screen, get food and walk back to car. No real interaction with anyone.

by to take your order. One Taco Bell I sometimes stop at totally refuses to do anything other than have people use the screens. Folks won't even acknowledge you. Now that Whataburger location on Woodruff Road is past their brand new phase, one must use screens. Waiting long enough may get you some help though.
After fumbling through the screens of a POS system as the pizza place, I strive to give some grace to those using them for a living. It sucks.

I walked into my local Harris Teeter the other evening, and the young guy up front was wearing a black bowtie and vest. He looked a little bit like a Black Jack dealer at a nice casino. I was walking towards the hand baskets and he grabbed one and gave it to me and said "good evening, sir".
I thought that was pretty good.

They will be replaced by AI soon. Maybe we will be able to choose the accent we want to interact with. That would be cool.
