According to the resident conspiracy Trumpists on Politics this week:
-Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un are good guys fighting pedophilia worldwide.
-Also, Putin is not the evil man y'all all think he despite his political opponent dying mysteriously in a Siberian prison that Putin shipped him off secretly to.
-Smiling Tiger had a great post about how we should try to understand each other and see past our differences, but resident Trumpists said nah, #### that, anyone different than me sucks and I want to shut them out.
-The juvenile shooters in Kansas City are actually having their identities protected by the DA because they're black.
-The real Joe Biden was assassinated years ago and replaced with a body double.
-Trump is going to take down the evil CIA, FBI, DOJ... for real this time.
-Donald Trump isn't a phony and actually cares about Americans
-The sanest candidate in the election is... Robert Kennedy Jr.?
-Climate change is, of course, all a hoax and all that increased water in Charleston is made up. Maybe they have it shipped in during rain storms?
-Donald Trump would destroy Ronald Reagan in an election. Somehow Reagan wasn't conservative enough?
-NOW we're suddenly worried about the DHS having too much authority.
-Public universities should somehow restrict the speech of athletes because they aren't as Americanin' as hard as people like. Also, the ACC will turn into a leftist pinko conference now because of Cal and Stanford.
-We should use the Ukraine money to hire SWAT dudes at $80k to stand around public schools and look tough.
-"The military isn’t the place of honor and heroism that the government teaches us it is." -CharlestonTom
-Somehow the money for Ukraine is what has caused our inflation problem... which started well before the war in Ukraine.

Actually, I looked at the links and map you posted in the Global Warming Change thread a couple days back, and seems to me over development is main culprit in Charleston. So much water that used to drain out through swampy areas getting partially absorbed is now channeled for more and more homes and businesses.

Are you telling us that the swamp is getting even with us for over-developing? This is literally the underlying theme of EVERY 70's era horror movie involving giant frogs, Insects, and who can forget Night of the Lepus?..
And this is why we have things called Damns, man-made channels, and modern storm drain systems they are required when putting in new lahe scale devlopement, or even worse, parking lots.

That was the point. That water used to partially (mostly?) absorbed into the ground. Don't know if you've noticed, but concrete isn't very absorbent.

listen bud, water levels do not rise because of new development, floods can certainly happen when man-made infrastructure fails due to over development, sure.
And for every acre of pavement, you have to put in retention ponds, swales, and yes, dig channels to divert water flow. engineers take all of that very seriously, like stick up their butt seriously. But it was a nice shiny ball for a bit, or nice attempt.

So what you're saying is you didn't read the link Cata posted a few days back. Perhaps he'll indulge us and post it again so you don't have to go hunting. Read the reasons for Charleston adopting Paris Accord type 'climate mitigation'(what a joke!). View the maps of development over the past 30 years or whatever. Miles and miles inland. If you think retention ponds and channeled flumes etc work as well as miles and miles of water absorbing earth, you're nuts.

The water levels have risen over the past several decades. That's a fact, and it has nothing to do with development.
You can hate the reasons people give for climate change all you want, but you can't prove the water level is the same.

The flooding downtown is the same as it’s always been. The only difference is that there are structures and people on every square inch of dirt. You know that dirt that gets trucked in on 26 every minute of every day (because it’s fkn swampland).

Anyway. Yes wooden water MAINS have been replaced. But there are still drainage that is in use that is wood and brick. That is a fact.

Most large capacity storm drain piping nowadays is RCP(reinforced concrete piping). Vitrified clay is better than wood which is why it replaced it. Brick is the oldest method but has it's issues(but I know that there are still brick storm drain tunnels still in service in CHS). Here, just to help you out a little bit ...

Don't take my word for it, I'm just a lowly Clemson civil engineer that worked on the James Island Exp, the Mark Clark Exp., the Isle of Palms connector, the re-support of the Ashly River Bridge, a huge water main from Hanahan to downtown and numerous new buildings in downtown and all around the city(btw, much to my surprise on one down by the market, we discovered that the old building was resting on about 12 feet of old brick and we deduced that they just built over the ruins after the big earthquake). Anyway...

I am glad you found a picture of a pipe. The reality is that storms are dumping more water because the air temperature is warmer, which means it also holds more moisture. I had to study this crap in part 107 AERONAUTICAL EXAM. Tell us again about your scientific background.
South Florida has been dealing with these problems since we started building on the coast over 100 years ago., they successfully turned the swamp into viable development because engineers already anticipated extreme rainfall events when it was developed.. Charleston, not so much. If it is flooding more frequently, it is because it is getting more rain, period.
And again, development and poor plumbing does not raise the water table, rain does.

First of all your argument should be about "head" and not water table. And second of all, you discount any influence of impervious surfaces (development) which a major factor in runoff.
