We were still a really good football team then and proved it by having success outside the ACC.
Our basketball team is having high level success despite the ACC’s shortcomings as well, yet many of our “fans” here continue to harp on how bad the ACC is. It’s really weird, especially since I don’t recall these same people doing that when we were an elite football program.

I would not claim the 2016 national title had a weak ACC. Our in-conference SOS ranked 11th nationally right up there with SEC and Big 10 teams with classic games against FSU, Louisville, and VT.

Compared to #53 for the basketball program right now. That is a direct reflection of playing against the 5th rated conference in America.

Those teams slaughtered Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Alabama to win 2 national titles despite a "weak" ACC. When we can beat the blue bloods and win a title or even make the Final 4, we'll quit talking about a weak basketball ACC.

If we don’t make the ACCT it will be a major disappointment.
We should also expect another elite 8 run as well. A sweet 16 may suffice depending on how that goes, but falling out before then would also be a major disappointment and kind of validate the weak ACC status.

Why do think the ACC has become weak while Clemson basketball has grown strong? Why is Clemson basketball the outlier? Certainly the SEC pouring money into basketball has impacted our league but why has Clemson climbed while others have fallen? Perhaps our sticking with a coach while investing in the programs (which many of you advocated against) while other schools rotated through coaches looking just the right one negatively impact their programs?
FWIW in 2016, the talking heads said we would not beat Bama bumecause the weak ACC did not prepare us for what was coming then said iron sharpens iron

This team….. yes… I think they would be 3rd or 4th and maybe better. I haven’t watched a team this year that we couldn’t play with or beat on a given night. I guess too many of our fan base are so used to being bad that we can’t even admit when we are good. We have to come up with some reason to say we are bad.

wrong if the ACC performs well in the postseason. As it is, the ACC does not look nearly that strong. We’ll see. And frankly if we meet expectations for deep runs in the postseason, then the ACC doesn’t matter anyway.

Think our MBB Team was ranked top in 5 once, for an hour maybe, but lost.
Reminds me of Coot FB team being ranked #2 and would have become #1 within hours b/c #1 had been upset earlier that day..but Coots lost to Navy!

Honestly I think we should even be a couple spots higher. I get we lost a couple we shouldn't have and if the records were the same I would be in agreement. But we should be ahead of either T Tech or Iowa St. Or both. They have two more losses. Wins and losses at this point should matter.
