During Saturday’s game vs Duke, Purify committed an error that should have been a double play. As a result of the costly error, which should have doubled up with one out, do all 10 runs after that in the same inning count as unearned runs?

Thanks for your input on this subject.

Yes it is a little confusing. They count as unearned runs for the team, but because they changed pitchers it does not count as unearned runs necessarily to each pitcher. They configure unearned runs differently for the team overall than they do for each individual pitcher. At least that’s how it was explained to me. So to answer your question those 10 runs were unearned as counted toward the team ERA. Confusing it is.

Yes all 10 are unearned because of the error

Obviously it’s not all Jarren’s fault though. Only one run scored on the error.

What happened for the next 30 minutes after that wasn’t on Purify.

It shambled the team that day. That one error that led to Duke tying the game.

Terrible defense being played
