Pete Yanity vs. Don Munson.

Nothing against Don Munson. He's a great guy, and an excellent radio host. But I think that he's more of a Tiger Tailgate Show quality guy. He just doesn't bring ANY excitement to the play by play of Clemson Football. It's like listening to a funeral procession.
You can't tell if there's been a two yard gain, or a long bomb for a touchdown. Bring me back "And there's Orange in the Endzone!!!"

I'll broadcast live from Koki Beach, and alternate bikini babes for color commentary.
Touchdowns will be accentuated with, "And there's orange sand in her end zone!"
As long as my wireless connection holds up, I can do this.

Exactly! I always told other ppl that it could be way worse. I mean look at Todd down in Columbia. Sounds like a hammered, chain smoking grandpa calling games. Munson is still head and shoulders above him but I think now ppl are realizing Yannity wasn't so bad after all.

Roy seems like he is getting more involved at ESPN and I would imagine he will soon get bumped up to a better slot. If he makes it to calling games on ESPN 2 or ESPN U I would imagine he will no longer be hosting his show and will be working for ESPN full time.

After the late, great Jim Phillips left the airwaves, Clemson did a "nationwide" search for talent. "Nationwide" to TerryDon = Spartanburg. Pete is a very nice man, but was not a strong play by play guy. We used to time how long he could go before he would tell you the score in a football or basketball game or how much time was on the clock.
Again, nice man, but not a PBP guy.
Munson was hand-picked by the football department. He is a great Tiger Tailgate guy and I like him in pregame. I thought he would do a great job at PBP, but he makes me miss Pete (did not think that was possible).
We need a true nationwide search, but I am not hopeful.

The problem with Don Munson is I truely believe the game is just "too fast" for him as a play by play commentator. It's painful listening to him stuttering through a play. And you hear the whistle signal the play is over 15 seconds before Munson gets through explaining what took place. He should just stick to baseball or a slower sport.

I agree, orange in the end zone was unimaginative. The one that needs to go is the pre-game guy Stein. He is equally as bad as that obnoxious Walt on the afternoon show. They must own the station. No one would hire either.

He is ok, but makes a lot of mistakes in the limited time I listened to him. For the Wake game, he kept calling their PG Scottie Wilbikins, who is his brother. In the game we called a timeout when we didn't have any, he literally said "That is Clemson's last timeout" a minute before we used ours. He then proceeded to say we had a timeout left and unsure about all the confusion.

Thing is. I'm a poor Clemson fan. Even though someone in my family lives high on the IPTAY hog. But that's another story for another day.
And I love to listen to all the games on radio. Pete Yanity was a great replacement for Jim Phillips. God rest his soul. But Don Munson just doesn't bring the fire to the microphone. And Lord help us when we have the next nail biter game. People listening in might never know.

Oh how I miss Jim Phillips! You young bucks don't remember him but he was the best. I remember tuning in to listen to Clemson football on the radio while my dad and I worked in the yard or washed the car. You could tell within two minutes if Clemson was doing well or not by the tone of Jim's voice. RIP Jim. You'd love this Tiger team we've got now.

The number of responses to this post is telling. I'm sure Mr. Munson is a great guy, but how bad to you have to be to get this type of response about a radio broadcaster? Keep in mind that the vast majority of fans watch the game in person or on TV. In Jim Phillips day, the radio guy was much more prominent because only a few games a year were televised.
So why so many responses? I think because the few times I have heard him, he has been cringe worthy. He represents Clemson. Clemson strives to be first class in everything we do. This sticks out like a sore thumb because it looks like we are settling for average or worse and not getting first class.
No disrespect to the man. He obviously cares for Clemson and I respect that. Let's keep him on the payroll somehow but find something that is a better fit. I was very impressed with Tony C. during basketball season. Would love for him to do football too.
