That UVA and UNC are the most “coveted” teams to get for SEC and B10. He said they also want Notre Dame, but of course precious ND will not give up their independence.

Exactly, and I personally believe that Dame's independency is very close to the end in college FB. I would put my money on that it won't be the ACC that they attach themselves to, it will be the BIG!!!
ND has used the ACC for making money with mainly their Basketball & Baseball programs bc the BIG would have never allowed them in with the same deal that Swofford open his arms to, while bending over and kissing their A$$!!!

That makes perfect sense because Carolina and UVA are the flagship state schools of their states which y matches up the makeup of the conferences. The bigger factor is neither conference has a team from NC or VA and they would be gaining territory. No problem with his statement.

If it's about eyeballs then VA wouldn't be on their radar. UNC makes sense. V.A. would help in other sports and open up a fertile recruiting area. Who knows.

I agree with the new territory part and would be a great extension and rivalry partners to Maryland. The flagship crap not so much. Purdue is not a flagship and neither are directional schools USC and UCLA.

It does sound like a coot to think "Flagship" is important. Clemson is 72-43-4 all time against the flagship in Columbia. Clemson is the flagship!

No one cares about UVA football. VaTech seems more like an SEC program and culture than UVA. UNC, I get it. Super marketable in 2 revenue sports, great branding, new market including Charlotte.

You add two states and their TV markets, but don’t make your schedule any tougher. If you’re Alabama or Georgia wouldn’t you rather have the holes and the hoos added to your schedule instead of possible losses in Clemson and FSU if it brings in the same level of new revenue?

Already got the eyeballs in SC and FL. Carriage fees, which admittedly are going the way of the whales, are based on how many household your product reaches.
Also, the SEC doesn’t really need to get better in football they’re pretty stocked there; UNC’s and UVA’s basketball teams though would be a big add for either conference.

In NC and VA watch Clemson. As you say, the model by which they get paid still has a geographical component, but streaming is destroying that. Not arguing here - seems as if a lot of posters bristle (present company excepted) if someone disagrees with them. I admit in the subject line that I’m speculating.

Would most definitely strengthen the basketball side of things but the SEC has been one of the stronger basketball conferences as well. Never thought I would have said that about the SEC. Besides soccer, occasionally baseball and softball the ACC has nothing. Basketball once thought to be the best in the country has even fizzled.

Adding UVA and UNC would give the SEC every state school in the southeast. Also, the SEC knows UNC and UVA would be coveted by the Big 10 since they are AAU Universities. Adding Texas and Oklahoma was a no brainer for the SEC. It solidified the SEC as the best football and baseball conference. Adding UNC and UVA would put the SEC in the conversation as the best basketball conference.
