I think the number of athletes entering the portal will decline when more and more athletes realize they got nowhere to go.

they left a good opportunity for a worse one. Coaches are going to value the loyal guys, and you better believe when it comes down to who gets the job, it's not going to the guy who can't be trusted more than a year at a time.

If you are a marginal player( 3 star) you are probably better off not using it. If you are a 4 star position on team loaded at that position it might be to your benefit to enter it. If you are a 5 star player, you ain't going nowhere.

The portal needs to only be open in the summer and between the semesters for a time. No reason for kids to jump in the middle of the season when they can’t go anywhere.
