One week after graduating from Clemson in May 1969,

I was in the Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Most of the trainees were my age of 21 and younger. The Instructors were mostly young, also, but they realized what we did: the U.S. Army was paying us to give 110 percent effort, to toughen ourselves to endure the rigorous training, and to grasp the fact that we were not going to be cuddled to do our jobs!
The Instructors then proceeded to kick assss and take names for those three weeks! Looking back on it, those were three of the best weeks I spent in the Army. (Ranger School was a whole different can of worms designed to chop off most of your asssss! lol)
Even Jesus took the jawbone of an assss and drove the slacker money-changers out of the temple. From what we saw Saturday night, perhaps another jawbone is in order right now. These are grown men, all legal adults, with a job to do; meaning, they are not kids requiring soft words and coddling. Period.

motivation.
I spent three years on the sidelines at Clemson rousing students, alumni and fans onto their feet, screaming, yelling, jumping to exhort our teams to greater performances. I did the same in the Army, pushing troops to excellance; and I've done the same in business for 50 years, building a business across the southeast.
I don't believe our men need wet-nursing and coddling, for they are the same-aged men who would be called into active duty, God forbid, should we become involved in another major war. I know football is a game, but it's not a game for those wanting to sit on grass with legs crossed, arms linked and singing Kumbahfriggingyah, It is a business, a mammoth business, requiring 110 percent effort...something missing from what we've witnessed thus far.
Thus, the only way to overcome is for whips to start cracking...which is the only way I have been taught and practised for over 60 of my 75 years!

I usually don't post. I like to read everyone's opinion. However, your description of the Bible is incorrect. The stories of the Bible haven't changed in 2000 to 6000 years depending on which book of the Bible is looked at. Translations have changed to make it more readable while others stick closer to word for word translating. But, the Bible has not changed. Many people use the Bible as a guide on how to conduct their lives. Some people use it to hide behind, I guess. Others have used it as a bludgeoning tool. We may use it incorrectly at times, but the Bible is consistent and has never been shown to error in all that time. That's quite a good track record. One that none of us can compare to.

Loved the story. I never went through Ranger school, but Airborne school was awesome. Loved every minute of it, sawdust and all.
Only correction is Jesus made a whip to clear the temple. Samson used the jawbone to kill Philistines.

Thank you for your service. Your words are accurate. The hardest times are often looked back upon as the best times, bc they were overcome, not succumbed to. In college, in the military, and in business the lessons are the same. Suck it up and do the hard things well. Our team needs to do hard things better. But they can and hopefully they will. They need to be lead well. Hopefully the coaches will step up and get their stuff together. I know hope is not a plan, but I'm outside looking in. This is a tactical defeat, not a strategic one. It can be a lesson.

Many years there are no undefeated teams and sometimes there may be 1 at the end of the year. Every coach, player and fan wants to be that undefeated team but there is no shame in losing a game. Saying if is for hopeless losers and winners celebrate the good times and work to move on from a loss. Dabo and all our coaches are winners and will do that work this week and we as fans need to move on and be proud when we win Saturday afternoon.

In the Reeves building it says "Best is the standard". Saturday was not that by the team and coaches for whatever reason. So is that what we believe or are those just words on a wall?

Did we all see the same game? We had two weeks to prepare. Two weeks! Everything to play for. Total disaster. All the TNet articles, comments, even many users , seem to act like this was a passing rain cloud on our way back to the CFP. I think it’s more the canary was choking all year, the mine blew up Sat, and the stunned survivors just want to go back and start digging again. I hope I’m wrong and this team comes out with new fire and a revenge tour like 2003. Not betting my milk money on it though.

There was two weeks to prepare for this game. That is a fact. I’m sure that the entire fourteen days weren’t spent on the practice field but there WAS two weeks to get ready!!

I have a neighbor, who is a ND Class of 62 grad. Yesterday, he asked what happened to us and he was shocked that they won. He couldn't believe the QB was the same one from a couple of years ago. That's the perspective of some from the outside looking in.

3. players not motivated - coach's fault

"Finished on a high note"!?!? What was he smoking? What high note? I have always wondered when I hear things like this if Clemson ever recruits kids who don't have a religious background. Anyway, I am all for being positive, encouraging young people, teaching life lessons, and all but if I may put this in "religious terms" this football team needs a little "come to Jesus meeting" and get a dose of reality. Clemson is a very good football team that is underperforming. Why?!? That is what the millionaire coaching staff needs to figure out. The loss to ND was 100% on coaching. End of story. Maybe what the sermon really needs to be is "Fix it or get out!"

Maybe some fans making personal attacks on players and coots in disguise deserve this message but most of us fans are rightly concerned about what we saw Saturday in quite frankly for the past few years. We want nothing more than success for our boys.
Being that he is in charge of the passing game his area of focus was the worst of them all on Saturday. After his response when being questioned about the tight ends at the beginning of the seasonand now this one I have a least favorite coach of them all.

I don’t need a preacher to know I grew up with a father who told
me consistently to say you “did your best” was a poor excuse for not
achieving what you had set out to do. He would follow that up with...to be
successful, you do what it takes! Yes, he was a very successful businessman
Yes, I have started over 5 businesses ....all successful.
All my chief employees know my motto. 12,14,16 hours a day ...nothing matters if
you want to be successful. I have had many key employees leave me and start
their own business...,ALL successful now. That is the mantra of making it to
the top....everything else is BS.
