One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make

Growing up I thought it was hard losing a pet, but having to actually make the decision yourself is a whole different ballgame.

Tater came to us the day after significant trauma in our family. Found on the side of the interstate in Charlotte at 3-4 weeks old. She had her issues, anxiety among them, but #### she was my best friend. I know she knew we loved her, and no matter what she loved us fiercely.

For those dealing with this with kids at some point in the future, it was definitely the right call to let our kid's know ahead of time.

Rest easy Tater. You are already missed.

But you do the best and make the best decisions for your companion. It's part of the equation of trust between dogs and people, but having had to do that myself I know it sucks.

Peace to ya

I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s like losing a family member. That’s not being dramatic it’s just the dang truth. I had Carolina Dog that lived to 17. We did everything together. Even had her in the saddle with me crossing the river many times. I held her while the vet did the deed. I cried out loud like a baby. I’m not ashamed of that.
Take peace in knowing you made a hard decision that was the right decision.

I can relate to all you said, including the crying. Even the vet cried when we had to put one of our digs down he had been treating and treatment just did not work. Could not reverse kidney failure. He said the dog was a fighter and did not want to give up.

First, I am very sorry for what you are going through. Been there and it sucks. We are their world and they give all they have.

Looking at my boy Scout now. He'll be 10 in a few months. Overall he's in good health, but definitely slowing down with the usual stuff like arthritis/joint problems, gall bladder, random skin tumors, etc.. When his time comes, I'll tell him to look for Tater.
