Oklahoma taking big chance in retaining BV

for. Mother year. With all the portal guys leaving with some important pieces for next year I can’t see BV having any better than a 6-6 season in the SEC next year. After they let him go next year there will once again a major exodus of transfers and coaches leaving Norman. After two years of this their roster will be depleted to the point of taking years to get back on top. Oklahoma will become another Nebraska. Their best option is to minimize the damage by buying out and firing BV.

Yes. We have lost our edge but they will perhaps after next year lose their program for awhile. This new OC will be his 3rd in 4 years. New transfer QB put up good numbers with a no defense conference. How will he do against the SEC defenses?

I hope Coach Venables does well, keeps his job and continues coaching at OU.

I know he loves it there and I know he hates that the NIL/Portal thing has screwed up the game. I don't believe he will ever coach at Clemson again and I wish I was wrong about that.

I agree. I wished we could get him back but I think it will be like Jeff Scott who seems to have lost his love for it.

The SEC did them no favors either. Playing the exact same schedule but flipping the location is just lazy. Don't they have someone in charge of scheduling? I thought the point of getting rid of divisions was to get everyone a chance to play everyone else every 2-3 years.

SEC hates BV because he coached at Clemson and Dabo is a Christian. You'll never convince me otherwise.

standpoint due to the portal. The Nebraska situation happened in a different time. It also appears BV has a good qb to take the reins for next year.

Hopefully he’ll come be our defensive coordinator for the fun of it!
We are dreaming but it would be nice for Clemson.
Don’t ever count Brent out, he’s an amazing coach who came in at the most difficult transition in college football ever. It’s truly the Wild, Wild West!
His roster when he arrived was depleted and using the NIL to fill huge holes catches up with you quickly.
He’s extremely smart, he could pull through this looking like the true great young head coach he is.
He has to figure out how to use others to do what he did as a Defensive Coordinator, it’s a learning process when not everyone chews metal!

if he wanted to come back as DC for us.
That being said, if I'm Oklahoma I give him time. A lot has changed underneath him; unlimited transfers, NIL, and switching conferences. You have to take that into account when looking at a first time coach and I think he can be very successful there.

Something like $44M buyout will keep him around another year. He’s made some coaching and player moves so will see if they can turn the corner. Resources-wise they should be as good as any in the conference.

I think they get rid of him
I think it’s time to move on for them to be honest
1 year isn’t going to change much, and they will just get that much further behind the 8-ball

He just got a 55 million dollar contract tbat was fully guaranteed. He stays 1 - 2 more years. Also he wouldn't come back as a coordinator.. see Jeff Scott, once the guys get a taste and all the stress, they don't miss it as much as they thought tbey would.

They have a really good recruiting class and transfers coming in but the bottom line is any coach who moves to the SEC is taking a chance.

BV loves Clemson will retire in Clemson. He still has his house there so it’s not far fetched to think he might have a role at Clemson after he is done a Oklahoma.
