OC Riley interview

Couple of things: First, I am not about throwing hate at the man. I really wish he would address more of the technical aspects of what is going on verse saying over and over about the need to have short term memory. Coach, I have been to 20 home games in my life. The last three, I just don’t see you trying to rally the guys on the sidelines. That is part of your job. Don’t ask your players to forget about the last play that went bad. Rather, ask them to process it and learn from it with you involved. That is also part of your job.

It’s always funny when the ignorant (lack of knowledge) harp on silly things. Riley calls all the plays. If the head coach wants to interject he does, just like most every head coach. He’s literally not even carrying a playsheet.

My best head coach where I was the most successful was a layed back coach who let you play the game the way you could be successful.
I did not need to be yelled and screamed at to perform at my potential.
No all coaches have to be that way to be successful.

Well, there definitely is a lot of truth in that. However, based on the data collected from our first four games, that approach is not working. I am not talking about yelling. I am talking about showing some passion. During our championship years, it was not uncommon for players and or coaches having to be separated on the sidelines. There is a fine line. You have to play with a sense of urgency.

You can take that approach with teams that are both focused and motivated. This team has shown to be wildly inconsistent with focus and motivation. Case in point. The inside kick by Syracuse last week. If you watch that play again, players are coming out of their stance before the ball passes them. That is a basic skill taught at middle school level. Coaches need to get these guys focused.

To be fair I think the problem is they are not playing loose and thinking to much. Cade is staring at open WR and throwing it so late that they are covered. The lineman are thinking pre snap who to block and miss the blitzing safety who runs right by them. The Wr are so concerned about turning upfield and making a play that they drop the pass. If they would play loose and fast they would have no problem even if they make a few mistakes, but they are playing tight trying to be perfect and thus look slow and alow the defense to make a play.

Whose job is it to set the mood/tone? Yes, having players as solid leaders would be ideal but in absence of that, it falls upon the coaches. I am not talking about Dabo. Rather, the assistants he gave that responsibility to.

Not to mention he can’t read the defense, he doesn’t seem to be on the same page as his running backs on most plays, and trips over his own two feet. Yeah he’s quick, but when he does scramble, he has no ball security and usually didn’t need to scramble in the first place

I wish Dabo and Riley show some anger on the sidelines. If I'm coaching a team that is underperforming to this level I'd probably have an aneurism. After every possession they look so unaffected with alot of "we'll get 'em next time"

The clapping after penalties we commit in Quarters 1 to 3 and then looks of disgust in the 4th by coaches is fascinating and inconsistent all together. Look, I still believe because we have Dabo. However, please, no more pressers where you say you will coach elsewhere. That is the quickest way to confuse the very players you are asking not to quit in the 4th quarter.

If your yelling at players during the game they weren't ready for the game. Preparing for the game is where the coaching happens. I do agree there's no energy coming from him or any urgency.

Once again, not talking about yelling. Talking about showing some fire and passion. This game is about adjustments. The teams practice to win as well so things are not going to be predictable. Also, our DC needs to get on the sidelines.

Maybe he’s saving his energy for the “We win We dance” party after the game. He should have plenty of it stored up by now.

Riley is not the type of guy the players are going to be disappointed to disappoint. He’s a West Coast type of guy that honestly just doesn’t fit here.
Can anyone imagine him surviving on Danny Fords staff? And I’m not even referring to his offensive style. Young Men react to the type of leadership in front of them, that guy isn’t inspiring anyone.
Football is a physical , testosterone driven sport. Guys like B.V. brought that to the team.
