Obviously there isn't a mercy run rule in baseball

Jun 6, 2022, 7:50 AM

Maybe I just didn't notice it in the years past but it seems like this year there have been some odd lopsided scores in the regionals. Are teams just good or just that bad?

Not in playoffs

Obviously there isn't any pitching depth in college baseball.***

It’s not just being good or bad. Scoring has ebbed and flowed with bat changes but crazy high score games have been a part of the score as long as I’ve been watching. But the nature of the college baseball postseason means coaches sometimes make the decision to hang a guy out to dry and save their other pitchers for the next game - which amplifies crazy scoring in the postseason.

Just another reason softball is vastly superior to baseball as a spectator sport

I don’t know why softball doesn’t believe in comebacks.

They only play 7 innings anyway. Can’t they just play it out?

Oklahoma St. was down 12-0 yesterday in baseball, and they won.

Why does a sport have a rule in place that encourages giving up?
Don’t get me wrong… I overall think girls’ softball is an exciting sport. Just don’t like that rule.

Would you support if there were a men's softball team?***

There is no 'mercy rule' in the NCAA Tournament.

Seems odd that they haven't instituted one.

The discrepancies between teams appears to be depth at the pitching position and bullpen (or, arm barn for the PC). I believe learning to 'go with the pitch' also contributes to putting the ball in play instead of 'swinging for the fences'.

A few of the games got really out of hand. Can’t rennet who it was but seen a 13 in one inning. I don’t see myself as a quitter but I may think about getting the bus’ fired up early, especially if I knew my pitching staff was depleted.

the "best of the best", that there would be THAT many lopsided games. I guess it just proves that there is not a wealth of truly great pitching in college baseball anymore. The increasing salaries of pro baseball players just makes it too enticing to sign right out of high school if you are a pitcher with "pro" talent.

I can't say that I really blame them. They know they could be only one arm injury away from having it taken away from them for life.
