Notre Dame. What is the magic they possess? I am older enough to remember

when Paul Hornung was the QB for a 2-8 Notre Dame team in 1956. At the same time, Johnny Majors let Tennessee to a 10-1 season. Guess who won the Heisman?
Next, when the “ powers that be” aka ACC officials, asked Notre Dame to join our conference ( with the exception of football) it was a time of celebration because we all were convinced that Swofford had a hidden assurance that in the near future football would also come in. Several years passed and Notre Dame continued to be an independent. However, COVID came and Notre Dame was going to have to cancel their season. However, “guess who” stepped up to the plate and let Notre Dame play an ACC but also have the audacity of letting them to have a chance of being ACC Champions.
Currently, whenever NCAA football policies are made or discussed, they involve (with equal votes), the AD’s of the power five conferences and the Notre Dame AD. What this says is Greg Sankey (representing 16 schools); and Tony Petitti (representing 18 teams) have the same vote as Notre Dame.

Ask yourself this question. How many football college teams have had their own broadcast network deal? They have won over 950 games, 4th all-time, and 11 National Championships. No where was it ever said that Notre Dame would join the conference for football and the fact that they play 5 games a year against ACC teams is huge for those 5 teams. Notre Dame is Notre Dame, nuff said.

And they haven’t won a national championship since ‘88. 37 years! They came close this year but they do not deserve to have the same vote as a conference.

Their magic is falsely in the heads of the media. They have gotten a lot of mileage from Rudi.😆

Joe Montana said there was no big deal happening when Rudy went in, people weren’t chanting Rudy until after the sack, and the players carried him off as a prank.
Great movie, even if it is part fiction.

people usually listened to the ND football games on the radio, and hence, why it became a national brand.
Stories have been told and retold over many years about its program, coaches, team members, its victories, somthat there is an aura associated with it. Most of the time, it is a big deal to have the fighting Irish visit a stadium...certainly in this part of the country.
I understand the mystique, although I wasn't a fan of the deal Swafford made with them without a requirement for full membership within a time frame.

It is at least partially due to who they schedule year after year.
The service academies and ND game for instance has always had the feel of a rivalry game.
Over the years ND and SoCal became a rivalry game as well and some might say Stanford as well.
Same thing with a Michigan/ ND game and a OhioSt / ND game.
Look at Clemson. We've only played a handful of games but when they're on our schedule that game immediately becomes one of the biggest if not the biggest game on our schedule.
You may could even say ND is the team everybody either loves or hates. Nobody sits on the fence.
