My reaction to Dabo's presser.

Specifically his 13 minute defense of the team and the program. I had no problem with about 75% of what he said. The one place I think he stepped over the line was when he said, "If they don't want me to coach here, I'll go somewhere else."
There is no need to say that in public to a bunch of reporters who do not have the power to fire you. Those comments would only be appropriate if he were talking to Neff or the President or the BOT and he said it behind closed doors.

Yes, and then adding that I’m 55 and just getting started and even giving a slight insinuation that he would come back and haunt us if he is on the other sideline.
It was all just completely unnecessary and not a good look for the program. It certainly doesn’t leave you with the impression or confidence that he knows what to do about it.
It’s a tough spot made tougher…

Yes. It is featured prominently on the ESPN web site this a.m. We'll probably get a TNET article on Finebaum's take in a few hours, and I won't be shocked if it gets a mention on Game Day Saturday morning from Reece (like asking Saban to weigh in on it).

Respectfully, I think he added pressure and painted a fresh target on them. It didn’t alleviate anything. Those comments were personal and had nothing to do with deflecting from the players.

Agreed slw. Nothing good has come from it. If you listen to the question, he goes way off topic. As Pate said he was wanting to spring this.
It’s a self-inflicted wound. No need for it. It’s a familiar refrain. As BV says …less is more. Never go after the fanbase/admin, etc…. Take blame, say you and staff are working hard to get it better. Thats it.
I have said this many times before, but the way we have approached recruiting and portal…. we give ourselves VERY little margin for error. WHY? The same is true here. If we struggle or God forbid lose Saturday….this kinda self inflicted stuff only adds fuel to a growing fire. WHY?
Just very unnecessary. Avoid crap like this and control what you can control.

Look up the definition of narcissism...it does kind of add some meaning to Dabo's burning desire to succeed and to succeed his way! Classic view that it is my way or I'll go do it somewhere else my way! Additionally, I agree with all the comments that the setting for these remarks was inappropriate, and I'm sure his players now question his long-standing views on loyalty. Perhaps a win this week will make life a little better around here.

As much as I respect and defend Coach Swinney…I agree with you on this.
Especially in today’s landscape where players can pick up and leave anytime they get discouraged. This is exactly the worst message to send to them.

For my part, those kind of comments are never appropriate, but might be consistent with something said by a teenager.
Dabo is one of the last I thought I'd say such about but he crossed a line.

Since he's owed about 60 million as a payout, he knows that letting him go isn't feasible. So this is, essentially, him telling the fans who are complaining to pound sand.

Coach - I appreciate all you have done for Clemson and what you have accomplished. I hope you are here at Clemson for many years to come. But don't threaten us again. If YOU don't want to be here, YOU make the decision to leave. In the meantime, shut up and do your fuc**** job!

Dabo has always said that last season’s touchdowns do not win this season’s games. So I have this question for Dabo, when was the last time that Clemson won a CFP postseason game? Dabo is getting paid as a coach that can field a team to compete in the CFP. Clemson football has not played to his “Best is the Standard” in a while.

He went from the heat into the fire. If he wanted headlines today - “he got ‘em” .. in a bad way. Not a good look for recruits and all of the sports shows are pointing out HIS inability to adjust to todays game .. better not come out flat against Syracuse, other than the fans ..unsure who he’ll blame this time ?

Or similar. Wont be the last. Dabo always gets defensive if fans grumble after a loss. It's P4 football. Fans will always grumble after a loss no matter if your ACC BiG or SEC. I love Dabo but he has earned a reputation as a whiner

And even if they did, he wouldn't know, because he stated that he doesn't read articles and message boards.
It all felt very dramatic. No one said that we stink. No one questioned his incredible accomplishments at Clemson.
He is allowed to say whatever he wants, but his gaslighting was uncalled for in my opinion. He seems to be a narcissist these days, and it isn't a good look.

Having a lot of money can do one like that. When you are filthy rich you really just use a job as a hobby.Dabo also knows he could land another coaching job soon or a seat next to Saban.Don't blame Dabo, the money made him say it.

If the last part of your post is sarcasm, good one. If not, I’m going to politely disagree. He’s a grown man. He could’ve taken less money any time and nobody would’ve stopped him. He is accountable for what he says and does. The money didn’t “make” him do anything.

There were no reporter questions that prompted Dabo's rant, so something behind the scenes must have set him off. There's no fan outcry for him to be fired. I don't mind him reminding fans of the program's accomplishments, but threatening to leave and calling out fans wasn't cool. I'm still "All In", but a little disappointed. Go Tigers!

Agree and more importantly, if you were a student athlete considering a school, coach, and program built around that coach….and you were deciding between CU and another program, how would those comments affect your decision, or would it?
