6 teams ranked if you count Notre Dame compared to 8 for the SEC.
The SEC’s only good non conference win is Texas A&M over Notre Dame by a point and a mid pack ACC team beat one of their best.

ACC football shouldn't be ranked. Only reason is there isn't anyone else to rank. I can promise you esecpn is not happy with an acc championship being meaningless and the remote chance that 2 g5 teams could leave the acc stranded. All about the money.

I hate the SEC bias as much as anyone but we have to be honest here...do we need to bring up Clemson's record alone against the SEC the last few years? It isn't good. I'd take Mississippi State, Auburn, or the coots beating BC, Stanford, Syracuse, or North Carolina right now in the "Who's the Worst Bottom Feeder Bowl".
I'm not confident in the ACC having a winning record if the top teams in each conferences played each other. The matchups would be currently. Georgia Tech vs Texas A&M Virginia vs Alabama Pittsburgh vs UGA SMU vs Ole Miss Duke vs Texas
I don't see the ACC coming away with a winning record there objectively in neutral site games. Just far too many unfair matchups there. Duke would be slaughtered. SMU? Don't even get me started. Pitt/UGA would be interesting but UGA has the depth and athletes to just wear Pitt down late in the 3rd on a good day. Bama/UVA could be interesting for a half MAYBE. Georgia Tech/Texas A&M? Haynes King would be hobbling by the 3rd QTR.
The ACC is weak and will always be perceived weak until other teams finally step up and become actual national contenders and knock off other top teams consistently.
Because outside of Clemson and FSU, who else in this conference has won a national title in the last 20 almost 25 years? ....nobody. And I almost don't even want to count Miami because they weren't even in the ACC yet when they won their last title.
Also, F### NOTRE DAME! They have everything handed to them without even having to be in a conference.

The "Committee" tolerates the ACC, but does not respect it. Sure, 6 ranked teams in the CFC...but all 6 below the 13th spot.
Not a Miami fan AT ALL, but the "Committee" is screwing them. Compare their info vs ND... Both 7-2, ND- 1 win over ranked team, Miami- 2 wins over ranked teams...and Miami has the head to head win over ND, so... ND ranked 9...Miami 16 ok...ND lost to #3 TA&M at ND
Can you splain that to me Lucy?
My bet is that the ACC will begrudgingly get (in spite of E$PN and Greg $ disapproval) only 1 team in the playoffs.
Guess all will clear itself when ND and Miami both play Pitt and who knows what else will happen over the next few weeks...stay tuned!

You have to look at it this way and how the committee will sometimes routinely view it as well when they speak about their rankings.
-When did you lose? -Who did you lose to? -Eye Test
Carson Beck and Miami is Jekyll and Hyde as opposed to Notre Dame. Miami also has a really bad loss under their belt to SMU and then another to Louisville. Both losses are worse than Notre Dames, that can't be argued. They also discount losses early in the season for many teams. I don't like it because it does slightly degrade the regular season and the feeling of making every game feel like your title ride is on the line but alas, you want to look like you're America's hottest team when it is time for selections as opposed to peaking too early and collapsing.

It’s not 6. It’s 5. And the highest ranked is outside the top 12. Meaning, without auto bids, the ACC would not even be in the playoff.

The ACC does not have an automatic bid, although it is likely they will be included. The 5 highest ranked conference Champions get automatic bids. In theory the ACC can be left out.

Yes, I'm aware. But the point is, the only reason the conference would be in the playoff right now at all is because of the auto-bid exception.

I don't really give a hoot about the rankings. Look at the records and what has happened on the field.
One of the worst teams record wise in the ACC beat one of the best in the SEC.
The SEC has not dominated in non conference play either.
No reason for them to be as overrated as they are.

You would think that was funny. Which football teams carry the ACC most years?
The ACC in football regardless of this years record is definitely not to the level of what Clemson needs to be competing with week to week. Look at playoff appearances, conference championships and football attendance and get back with us on how the ACC is not beneath Clemsons expectations for football when comparing us to the rest of the ACC members.

In the last 5 years alone, we have lost to the following ACC teams:
Duke Florida State Georgia Tech Louisville Miami NC State Pittsburgh SMU Syracuse
Your post makes it sound like we outclass all of them on the field and are rarely challenged.
Which conference do you think would be a better fit? Please don’t tell me you think we would be contending for conference championships in the SEC or Big 10 recently!

Let me know what the record would be if these teams played today:
Texas AM vs Georgia Tech Virginia vs Alabama Pittsburgh vs Geogria SMU vs Ole Miss Duke vs Texas Louisville vs Vanderbilt Miami vs Oklahoma Wake Forest vs Tennessee California vs Missouri Clemson vs LSU Virginia Tech vs Florida NC State vs Kentucky UNC vs Mississippi State Stanford vs Auburn Florida State vs South Carolina Syracuse vs Arkansas
Because I think the SEC wins a minimum of 12 of those games.

We can all speculate, but we saw a team at the bottom of that list from the ACC beat a team at the top for the SEC.
What happens on the field doesn't seem to matter though.

That 1 game is not indicative of the entire conference, as you know. It is very obvious that the SEC is much stronger than the ACC in football.
And, if you just want to use head to head as your barometer, here are the games this year:
ACC vs SEC
FSU 31, Bama 17 Miami 26, Florida 7 VT 11, S Carolina 24 VT 20, Vandy 44 Clemson 10, LSU 17 Cuse 26, Tennessee 45
SEC, 4 wins ACC, 2 wins

It's not just one game. The SEC has one good non conference win and it was a one point win over Notre Dame. Alabama has a bad loss to FSU and Texas lost to Ohio St.
Their marquee non conference win is over a mediocre Michigan team. No reason for them to be considered above anybody else as a conference. It's not just about comparing them to the ACC.

ND should join the conference FULLY - or we should not allow them to play an essentially ACC schedule. They use our P4 teams as a means to attempt to get in the playoffs but are tying up spots on all ACC opponents out of conference slots.
If they don't join fully, then NO ACC teams should play them... Let them go back to playing uconn, the service academies and the ivy schools... Done with them having all of the benefits of being in the ACC without any benefit for the other teams in the ACC.
