With what I saw out of Peter Woods yesterday. He said "I think we are playing hard." You either are or you aren't. You dont need to think about it. If I were him, I'd be pissed to be answering questions about being 1-3. But it didnt seem to phase him.

I also read about about a rumor of a defensive player stating after losing to Texas about their effort and they responded they didnt care, they got paid. I believe if that is true, it might be him. He doesn't seem driven. That was kind of my concern when he committed to us with his announcement.

His stock is slipping whether he believes it or not. I truly dont know if that bothers him or any of the projected 1st round players.

His hype comes from high school. He has never really stood out for us.

This is the 3rd time I've seen someone add their own feelings to the word think

Would you have felt better if instead he had said, "this is what I think, we are playing hard"? He was asked his opinion and stating that, in his opinion, they're playing hard; he was not equivocating. There is no doubt that our front four has to, and should be, playing better; but trying to use the word "think" to editorialize about 11 is ungenuine.

For me it's his demeanor. If you watch his segment of the interviews, he just looked disinterested. Kind of how he is playing.

I find it hard to believe, although I could totally missing something, that a player of his caliber, on everyone's draft list would not be playing hard. Would that not boost his stock? Every player on the team that has Sunday potential should be out there every game putting on a clinic.

They are getting paid millions. A young guy like that probably seems that he does not have to do much, just go through the motions. Clowney at Carolina took many plays off and he was not getting paid nowhere near this kind of money.

dominant/elite looks like and what simply playing hard looks like. The supporting role players that played during the days of CW42 and Dex got to see it everyday in practice and in the games against opponents. So guys like Carlos Watkins, DJ Reader, Clelin Ferrell Austin Bryant, etc. saw what that extra gear looked like all the time. It gave them a reference point to elevate and update their performance.

These guys on this team have played on teams that just play hard. And that is the standard for them. Give effort and if you're exhausted after the game then that means you played well. Guys who are pre-programmed to dominate probably hate the thought of "playing hard" but come away with no results. I will say though its alot easier to find that gear when you play complimentary football. When there are not as many breakdowns at other positions. Because opposing teams can just take away the special players b/c the other guys are going to mess up.

None of these guys are being pushed. We have a bunch of " baby sitters" as coaches who are hiding behind the concept of "positive reinforcement " instead of getting the players' attention with some hard coaching. Lord help us, we have lost focus on what it takes to be great. Please Dabo- get with it!

That's interesting and I think you are right. I remember when I was in Quantico in Officer's Candidate School, one night, after a good day in training on the drill field, our daily run, exercises and other training, our Platoon Sergeant came into our barracks and told us how proud he was of us and put up a picture of a squared away Marine on our bulletin board. The next day we were motivated to the hilt and did all of our training in a highly motivated manner. That night the Platoon Sergeant came into our barracks and told us we looked like crap, did nothing right, and we didn't deserve the photo of a real Marine on our bulletin board. He ripped down the photo, threw it on the ground and for the next ten minutes made us run through the barracks stomping on the photo. We caught holy he77 the following day.

That whole exercise was just to keep our attention and make sure that we paid attention to details and never got complacent. You can't do that in combat and you can't do it in training. The entire OCS experience was designed to make candidates quit during training, as you can't afford for them to quit in combat. Out of 150 candidates that started in my class, only 63 graduated. Let's start playing the guys that want to play football and let those that don't sit for a while.
