Why this game is so important to FSU.

I know it is a big game for Clemson. Lose it and that makes 2 conference losses which makes a trip to Charlotte almost impossible and virtually no chance for a bid to the playoffs. It would bring out the calls of "Dynasty over, Dabo has lost it, etc."
But, I think it is even bigger for FSU. Here is why.
If FSU can't beat Clemson this year, when will they ever beat Clemson?"
FSU is a veteran team. 86% of the offense returns. At least 5 guys came back this year who were projected to be drafted, including Jared Verse and a couple of others who would be 2nd or 3rd round picks. FSU also hit it big in portal with Coleman and Bell and Fiske (DT).
Next year the starting QB will either be a guy who is considered a career back-up or a redshirt freshman, probably the freshman will win the job. The top 3 WRs will be gone. The top 2 RB will be gone.
In short, next year will be a rebuilding year. Unlike Clemson, UGA, Bama etc. FSU is not in the position of "reloading."
Clemson will be better next year than they are this year. FSU will not be as good as they are this year. There is no doubt in my mind, the coaches understand this. So, I think there is even more pressure on FSU to win than there is on Clemson.
And, based on my concern over the defense of FSU being exposed last week (versus it just being a case of a couple of guys missing an assignment), my prediction is....

.... to improve HS recruiting so that he doesn't have to depend on the portal to build the core of his team. This year he has a solid recruiting class (ranked in top 10) for the first time ever. I'm sure he will use the portal again, but not as much as in the past 2 years.
He has said that you can't build a program based on portal recruiting every year. A program has to be built on HS recruiting.

Watched Miami Central/Chaminade(Sp). You guys have a guy named McCoy coming in at receiver that will help. There was like 15 major commits between the two teams. I live in SC and that’s more on two teams than we have in a complete recruiting cycle for the state.

Obviously that was from the FSU perspective. I get it. But…Clemson also has players that bypassed the draft, and it will be tough to predict who will start next year for FSU because all of the senior talent moving on. Why? Because Norvell will go to the portal and bring in 15 experienced players to fill in the holes. The only way an inexperienced player starts next year for FSU is because Norvell couldn’t get the portal player he wanted or because they are good. It’s a new world out there.

Agree with a lot of this but Norvell will just reload in the portal and the incoming class is outstanding. Noles aren't falling off anytime soon .

Trey Benson - was injured at Oregon and didn't play much. Not highly ranked in the portal.
Johnny Wilson - Only caught 2 passes at AZ ST, not highly ranked.
Brian Fiske - played at Western Michigan. Highly thought of, but coming off an injury. Was a risk. Had shoulder surgery and didn't participate in Spring practice.
On the other hand,

That's 8 starters today.

Now, to prove my homerism, I'm in a fantasy football league. I went with my heart and not my head and picked FSU to win in that league. (It's espn confidence league, where you assign a confidence level from 1 to 10. I picke FSU at the 1 point level.)
If FSU had beaten BC 45-10 like they should have, I would have a whole lot more confidence and picked FSU to win.

Bret you are being very kind to us in your evaluation and especially
the score. I differ with you on the score. Fla St. this year scores
100% in the red-zone, Clemson 68%. Fla St. field goals is perfect and
Clemson is 1-4.The two teams are even in passing yd/pgm.273 for FSU
and 272.8 for Clemson. If the game is as close as you predict it will
favor FSU...but I hope you are correct.

Norvell is building for a season through the portal. He really had no choice. Pressure is on both teams, but Clemson is young. 15 of the FSU’s 22 are transfers and 10 of the 15 are at least 24 years old. Lose and going forward might be a tough road for FSU. Would be interesting to see FSU locker room if they were to lose a couple of games and see the difference in building for a season compares to building for a program.

I’m so tired of FSU and the portal and everyone blowing them. Ready for this game to be over so we both can move on. I seriously hope that we win because I dread the anger I will feel and the narrative that will explode if we don’t. I’m more annoyed with this game for some reason. I think it’s because their whole team is players for other schools. It’s not right. I’m not so sure their team is anything to be proud of. I don’t think this portal insanity will bail out crappy programs like FSU much longer. Enjoy this BS while you can. God I hope we embarrass this bunch of hired guns.
