Not a coach but question about last night?

We went to full court press in 2nd half for 2-4 UVA possessions. And the commentary said we should have sooner to tire out the UVA on offense to help our defense? I know we did it and we got a turnover, got a clock, and I think they got a slow score.

If we had 67% success, why didn't we continue? Right after success we changed back to same Def.

I am sure coaching costs us the embarrassment!! Why did Sheffieln disappear for like 15min, then comes in and gets rebound and scores.

Bad coaching again!

Your guess is as good as anyone else. Just like at Louisville we are down 3 or 5 late and called a timeout under our own basket. We take out PJ and Chase and drew up a three fading out of bounds for Wiggins (who hadn’t attempted a shot all game)

It was not our coaching. Virginia is just better than we are.

Full court press needed to be called in numerous games I have watched one being at BC. Had no rhythm and let them set the offense consistently. Just seems that it’s something that could be deployed to change up the pace, and possibly get some cheap baskets. Just rather be proactive instead of reactive on the pace of play.

JMO… but BB is the coach and has not called me for my thoughts

This has been a big mystery for over a decade ...

What J. Bilas said is nothing new and has been beseeched, including by this TigerNet ! journalist since days of 2011 ... why don't we press, why don't we crash the boards, why do we immediately peel back like keystone cops after every shot, why don't we take it to the hoop more ?

I think its a style thing, a philosophy thing.

But, as J. Bilas said, UVa plays slow and methodical with many complex screen movements. With a press you force them to bring the ball up quicker, you disrupt their complex set movements. Other stuff ? By nature of falling back after every shot, you really give yourself one and done shot attempts.

Its a conservative approach, prevents many fast breaks ... but overall, its really limiting.
